Looking at the local Craiglist, the prices put on vintage vises seems astronomical
$600+++
Are y'all getting deals that good or are they crazy?
Examples:
$2200 "shipyard" vise:

Columbian 205 - $600:

Unknown - $750:

Yost 33C - $700 (nicest cond. of the bunch):

And then there's stuff like this older Craftsman 4" for $65:

(which I'd probably grab if it wasn't over 2.5 hours away...)

It looks like you had an epic day finding all of those bullets, congrats. That C2 looks like its in Perfect condition.
M635, If the big Prentiss has 8'' jaws, it has to be a #186 or it only opens to 8''.---Below is pics of a Prentiss #185 with 7'' jaws and weighing 240lbs.---That would put the 186 at close to 300lbs.---But it looks like the big Prentiss has a weld across the side of the dynamic tower, and it appears one jaw is missing, plus the pipe jaws are gone.---So there is a lot of restoration to be done after that whopping price tag is met.

Anyone know what size this machinist vise is? Best Guess?

That shape looks a lot like my friend's 1974 C2

I am guessing 4 1/2" based on the expanded wire diamonds being about 1" wide ?
Total lenght 18"It looks good other than the rust.

For $20 it doesn't matter what size it is. Get inthe horse and go get it.![]()
Unless he misread it. He said there's a C 2 stamped under the fixed jaw. It looks to me like 22 or maybe S2?Is your friend's a C2? That doesn't have pipe jaws.
I just picked this vise up at an auction (surplus from an offshore / oilfield company called Seacor Marine). It was an online auction, and all I could see in the pictures was the 1765 and Made in the USA. It also has the numbers 111823 on the opposite side of the static jaw. I assumed it was a Wilton Tradesman.
When I picked it up today, I discovered that there is no name anywhere on the outside.
Did Wilton produce unbranded vises? It seems to have been painted at some point, so I suppose a name plate on the side might have come off. What do you all think?
Thanks in advance

That is a genuine Wilton Tradesman. With a little elbow polish, and a side sticker, that vise could be a eye popper Its nice
That shape looks a lot like my friend's 1974 vise marked S2 or 22

That’s a beautiful family photo you have there. .
We’ll all keep our eyes open for the missing family member.
What is this?

Just bought this Morgan Chicago 145 vise with a work bench for $50. It has Wilton copper jaw covers on it
... Had to go pick it up today after getting him to come down from $75 to only $25!
Joseph L. Ware Swivel Vise. This is a 4” model. Looks like although some people have mentioned it being a Canadian vice, and is listed as such on the GJ Vise spreadsheet, I was able to find a couple of old pages citing it as a product of Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. (Which if true is very cool to me being a Minnesotan).

Aside from the unique U-shape, this vise is apparently cast-steel, wondering what people’s thoughts are on that vs. cast-iron?!
Anyways excited to own this rather unique Vise and get it restored and in working order.
The 3 patents I have for Mr. Ware are: 673,228 of April 30, 1901; 745,746 of December 1, 1903; and 1,375,876 of April 26, 1921.
The last one appears to be for the vise you have.
I have one with 1 1/2 inch jaws that has "PAT'D 16 July 1901 cast in the side. I could find no Ware patent or any other vise patent for this date. Maybe I didn’t look in the right place.
