Second one I have found. This one was in trash pile in the back of an old garage. Found some other stuff back there as well. Old wood grenades, a big broken maul.
So. Next question. Wire brush and then what?

That sort of stuff does best with electrolysis.

Electrolysis....phosphoric acid....vinegar....

Electrolysis will be the quickest.....

But be aware, you're going o have some pretty bad pitting....not much you can do about it.

but once you have it clean, toss it into a baggie with transmission fluid until you're ready to use it. That will prevent it from rusting right back up....with electrolysis or phosphoric acid, it will start to rust within minutes.

Another option to cut down on the pitting....sand blast it. it's small enough to be easy.

Thanks guys. I have another one I found. Used a cup brush on it. Soaked it in used motor oil- family standby- it's sitting on the bench. I try to keep it coated. Transmission fluid is something I've always heard. Gonna try that.

As fuzzy as that is, I'd start with a razor blade, and scrape off all the really gross stuff. Then your choice of rust removal methods. That's an easy shape, anything will remove the rust on that.

That should do it just fine. Transmission fluid is good for stopping corrosion, i have used it on my fertiliser distributor for the last 20 years, after hosing the ammonium nitrate away I spray the machine with old trans fluid using a shultz undrseal gun.

Soak in vinegar for a week, it’ll clean right up, or just wipe it down and put a handle on it like this wall hanger of mine found on the shores of Hudson Bay.
