My new next door neighbors went out of town for a few days so I let their chickens in and out for them everyday
I walk by the condenser going to the coup and noticed one of the units was frosted up
About that time the defrost cycle kicked in and cleared it up
Am I wrong to think low freon
This condenser unit was replaced by the previous owners roughly 3 years ago

That means their filter's clogged.

Yup. Know someone that had only clogged filters that iced it up like a brick

That only happens on an A/C only evaporator. Being located in Virginia, I'm going to have to assume that picture shows the outdoor half of a heat pump. It's normal for heat pumps running in heat mode to ice up a little before going into defrost. What I don't get is the weird ice pattern. It should be even, not have gaps like that.
