Remove the 2-pole breaker and install 2 single pole breakers. Wire your 120 volt load to one of the breakers and the other would be a spare. Or install 1 single pole breaker and a filler plate. But if this is for a multiwire branch circuit, the 2-pole breaker can be left in there and wire the separate hots to the breaker

If the existing circuit wire is 2 conductor romex disconnect the white wire from the 2 pole breaker and connect it to the neutral bar. That makes the circuit 120V.

RaisedonaDeere understands how electricules flow through wires. It boggles my mind when I think how eletricules can flow through a solid copper wire.

The easiest way is to hire an electrician. Especially if you have to ask about what you did. That is not a flame - just concerned for your safety.

The other guys are pointing you in the right direction.

I should say that you don't "convert a 220v breaker". In common panels, a 2 pole breaker is used to provide 220/240v for a power feed. No neutral is needed, but a green safety ground is connected to the ground bus..

A 120v circuit uses a single pole breaker. The black wire connects to the breaker and the white is connected to the neutral. Again, a separate green safety ground wire is connected to the ground bus.

A simple example: Lets say you have a 240v outlet now, connected to a 2 pole breaker in the panel. If you remove the 2 pole breaker, and install a single pole breaker in one of the slots, then connect as a 120v as described above. Of course, the outlet would be changed to a standard 120v style to match.

Caution: If you do not know how to de-energize a panel and do this safely, please stop and get assistance from someone familiar with electrical work. All AC panels contain lethal voltage.
