And got started laying out the corner miters.

Royce

Royce, do you just set the height of the section of pipe onto the anvil then shoot your laser onto the pipe, with the laser falling on the corner of the anvil? Is your laser set at 45* from the face (or side) of the anvil. Then you just mark the line onto the pipe section?
What is the purpose of the grid on the side of the anvil?
Hope you don't mind the questions. Thanks

Yes, yes, yes, yes.
The grid was to calculate weight
No, I don't mind

Looks good setting on that three legged blind flange table Royce. You do seem to have more that your share of really large blind flanges up your way counting the one you cut the anvil out of. Pretty darned useful chunks of junk they are. Ed.

Thanks Ed,
Yes, blinds are a good source of cheap, heavy material.
The legs on that table are tundra buggy axles and 4" in diameter.
Good for a couple hundred tons or a measly 1/2 ton anvil!

My pleasure Justin,
and it is nice when someone can take away some ideas or technique from these postings.

Great work. I don't want to start anything here, but we all know they make them big in Texas - but Alaska is bigger than Texas, so I guess you guys quietly make them bigger than Texas! ;)

Thanks TLC,
I don't know, but it looks like maybe you fellas in Washington might be the kings of big.
This one goes 5075 pounds and was made in somewhere in Eastern Washington!

Got the horn 8 sided today.
After dressing the 8 sides, I'll 16 side it.
Then decide if it warrants 32 sides, before going to round.

Thanks Outwest,
I do have a chunk of good sized tool steel for one.
I'm thinking of a 1-1/2" hardy hole and 3/4" pritchel hole.

Thanks Strouty,
It was getting difficult to layout the 64 sides, so I went by eye.
Then on to round, using the word round loosely!
I would not recommend this method of shaping a horn to any, but the heartiest of masochist.
It was really a lousy chore.

Strouty,
A fair bit of labor and expense!

BearsFan,
More than a few pounds!

Jay,
It feels good to be past the horn shaping.

Thanks all

For some of us, other folks junk is our treasure. We just need a place to store it until our imagination gives a vision of what we plan to do with it and then time and energy to get the job done.

Boxed in the bottom today.
Need to get some hard facing wire for the face.
If anybody has any insight on what brand and alloy, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Not a clue on brand or alloy, but the other day I saw a video where someone too hard facing rods and broke all the flux off, then used them to tig weld, thought it was a neat idea. Last time we did any major hardfacing it was on an excavator bucket and we used a roll of wire in the mig. Hopefully someone smarter than me will chime in. ;)
