My first "Real Vise" Chas Parker No 2x

I'm just giddy... :bounce::bounce::bounce: I was loading up some scrap metal at a guys place and he walks out of the garage carrying a large vise heading towards my trailer. I cut him off and said I'll just put that in the truck. Just noticed the No 2x this am when I went out to take a pic after doing a small bit of research last night. Any thoughts on year?

I picked up this nice Craftsman 5152 yesterday for $70. It's the second one I've seen in this color. Can anyone confirm silver was the factory color?

Minimally advertised from (1900-1919). I'd be giddy too.

Thanks Smitty!

It certainly is, I’ve been seeing a few of them come up on the forum lately. Mainly found by yourself and have been hoping to find one of my own. Today was that day. Very nice vises, super pleased

Going straight to the workbench as my main user.

This was a couple hours work. Pin is out and swivel jaws is moving on the Hollands 44. Tapped the swivel pin out with a long punch through the center bolt hole and then had to use heat and a brass hammer to budge the swivel jaw. They really machined these things to high tolerances.

My dad picked this up in Orrville, Ohio.
Strong, Carlisle & Hammond industrial supplies catalog H.
896 pages of awesome.

The cat isn't dated itself, but there is a handwritten date of 5-7-46, and a Strong, Carlisle, & Hammond phone directory dated March 1948 is taped inside the cover. There is another stamp of April 12 1948 on this as well.

Also notice the company name handwritten on the inside cover. Vise nerd alarms should be going off now. The Will Burt Co. also of Orrville made the original Versa-Vise. I thought that was very cool.

Here are some interesting vise shots from the catalog. I didn't know that Columbian made an 8" swivel jaw, so I learned something new.

Very interesting catalog. The Wilton and Columbian ads didn't show vise sizes relating to 1946, so I did a copyright search. Your catalog has a copyright date of Dec. 9, 1943.

Good stuff davethorik! Welcome to my world.

Finally, got my hands on a monster bullet. Is there age differences in the ones made in Illinois and the others?

Haven't bought a vise in a few years, then my white whale turned up :) Won't get a chance to look at it properly till this evening.

Recently restored this Record No. 5 vise. I couldn’t for the life of me order the correct Paragon Blue from the UK so I went down to the local tool store and found a close match. The paint used is actually an enamel pinstriping paint (see photo). I also somewhat restored the original decal.

That's my fault - I pointed him here. I didn't know about the parts-swap thread (though it is a Vise of GJ...)
It's ok man ... I appreciate the help [emoji4]

Anyone have an unrestored Morgan Aurora 140 they might part with

I’ve ended up with 2 Morgan Chicago 140s one already restored one soaking in vinegar. The one soaking is interesting in that it appears to have barely been used based on the jaw condition but it was totally seized up with rust. After 3 days of soaking in PB Blaster I finally was able to remove the dynamic jaw. After 2 days in vinegar I got the base apart.

I’d like to have this model made in Chicago, Aurora, and Milwaukee.

Don't see many of those Aurora's around in any model.---I don't know why.---They rarely pop up.---They're kind of like the Woonsocket Simplex.---They must not have been turning many out in those particular plants.:dunno:

Picked up this Dodge No 40 and a Morgan last week. Missing a base on the dodge, he had it welded to a plate.
