i have a 150 amp service with meter on my house, i already have 2, 60 amp sub panels on it. i have electric baseboard heat, electric dryer, electric water heater, electric cook stove, central air, well pump all on my 150 amp house panel. i do not have any extra breaker spaces. on my garage i have a 200 amp panel on its own meter, with almost nothing running in there.
Here is what i am looking to see if is ok or not. i want to put a mini split ac on my house, it is only 20 feet from my garage, could i run an ac disconnect from my garage panel to the house, or is that not ok, seeing that they each have their own meter and they are not attached.

Nope that wont work because the air handler that goes inside the building needs power. The power would need to come from the house.

Have you done a load calc on your house service?

Can you add another subpanel somewhere maybe next to the main service panel or combine some circuits in one of the subs?

Put the AC on with one of the breakers for baseboard heat. AC and heat will never run at the same time.

You can't have multiple services feeding the same building. If it's on the house it needs to get fed from the house.

thanks for the replies. i just did the load calculation, i'm at 99 amps so i guess that i have enough power. i do think i will run it to one of the subs that has a baseboard on it and just shut the baseboard breaker off for the summer and swap back and forth, shouldnt be that bad.

Swapping breakers is crazy. Either get some tandems or install another small sub with the a/c and a couple baseboard.

Just put the AC on the same breaker as one of the baseboards. Chances are one of the breakers is the right size for both. They don't run at the same time so it can be done.

My Mitsubishi minisplit powers the indoor unit with the control wiring from the condenser. So while he may not need to it most likely would work.

HMMV of course depending on his a/c.

Replace the meter base and the 2 panels with a combination base/load center.

or just go to some tandems on the house panel and open up the room.

if the sub in there doesn't allow tandems just put a panel in there that does/has more slots

Thats still a violation. Cant have more than one feed to a structure.
