tore it down,

Other then 5 coats of ugly paint it is in actually dang good condition.

It looks like it might be missing the removable jaws but the rest looks tolerable.

I had one of those Wiltons, its about 1970 ish or so (mine was a gift new)

They also had a non-pivoting version and one that pivoted from a centered pin.

Quite a number have been posted.

I think it was intended to compete with ta versa vise (No competition; the versa vise is better)

Dan, what is the jaw width on the Samson, max opening and weight if you have the time. I would like to add your vise to the spreadsheet. Kevin

Re: A Wilton I have not ever seen

A Wilton I have never seen.

Any ideas? :headscrat

Robert: What you have is a Wilton Flip Grip. Circa; early 1970s. A good light duty hobby vise. It would be very collectable if it had the jaw faces and original box. I restored & sold one around 10 years ago. I guess that the jaw faces usually get lost. The jaw faces on it are the first ones I ever made.

Here is the jaws for your Flip Vise Robert. I know you have the ability to make these since I watch your Chevy Truck thread. Wilton used the dowel method on these jaws and you have to hit the 2-3/8 number pretty close.

I have this little vacuum base Craftsman vise model 9-5174. These are U.S. made and were sold between 1969-79. I bought this one for $7.50 at an estate sale. The vacuum base still works, however its soft jaws are missing. I couldn't find an OEM code or patent number (just "PAT'D") on it, so does anybody know who made these?

Panavise.

Shiftless: That is correct.
I have a Panavise. The jaws seem to be made of nylon or some kind of plastic. I see replacement jaws are just a couple of bucks through Amazon and elsewhere.

Outlawmws: Very likely; do some eyeball comparisons on the castings.

Thanks y'all I'll take a look at Amazon.

Two good examples of "Type 2" early Stanleys. Type 2 = Stanley in raised letters on the left side and the model number on right side.

The Sweetheart logo can be used to get an approximate manufacture date. Here is the best explanation I have found:

https://virginiatoolworks.com/2012/04/19/whos-your-sweetheart/

I have a thing for those buggers and find them fairly often around here..

JKB

Awesome, thank you for the link. Mine has the 23-32 style with the top of heart even with the box around Stanley.

Thanks va & bob

Here is a poor photo of my Stanley clamp-on family. On the left are my 2 newest additions.

Then a maroon unmarked 1210 swivel base, a more modern 766V with STANLEY cast in the slide, as well as replaceable jaws. Last my 2 favorites, a 772 swivel base and 743 clamp-on, both are Stanley Rule & Level.

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. This is a Prentiss vise no. 162 it has 3 1/2” jaws, opens 4” and weighs in at 16 lbs. This was a through bench mounted vise. I can’t find another photo of a 162.602560be6dc8ed30a99d8b417ff06b71.jpg9cd3fcc10b987572e65762e9a91d27cc.jpg49ee796bc5d08c32c9acd93beb8cb32d.jpg

Thanks smitty. My dad picked a Prentiss 161-1/2 that looks similar.

Here are my clamp-ons that arent Stanley.

Starting bottom left, a Henry Boker hand vise mounted on an extremely overbuilt shop-made clamp-on base. Up top, a Pexto and American Hydraulics.

Next a Grand Quikcet, followed by a little Japanese jobby that came to me with no guide rods, so i cut and pressed in new ones of brass.

Last but not least, a NOS Miller's Falls no. 18 swivel base in original box.

Hello Vise Friends,

WARNING! The attached picture will be very upsetting!

Last month at an auction, a Chas Parker #205 was up for auction. Obviously broken, I didn't bid on it. It only caught my eye because my daily use vise is the same brand/model. The vise went up for auction and sold for $40. I was standing next to it and started to hand the broken slide to the "winner". He asked me: "What's that?" I replied: "That's part of your vise." The look on his face was tragic. I advised him that he could sell parts of it on Ebay. The lesson here is to look the vise over before you buy it.

I saw this stand on a board for $40 last summer and picked it up immediately. I could tell right away that it was a kick press stand because I have one. The stand was heavily rusted and it took a good three hours to clean up. I found markings that indicate it was for a Famco #10 press which would weigh about 600 lbs. effe1dc4eaa9825ad90c1f0996831b29.jpg

I decided to pair up the Rock island with the kick press stand. They both weigh 200 lbs so it’s really sturdy and it’s at a great working height.

Here are a few pics of my Panavise. This is a different model. Jaws are 2 1/2 inches across.

I never bothered to get replacement jaws. I bought this one from an old guy who priced it at $8.00. The big knob locks the tilting/swivel mount. Not quite as good as a Powr Arm. :)

I got this one for cheap a couple of weeks ago. It has the front locking pins which seems to be rare these days.19c7658e64125496b8364d740a00cad8.jpgb4619295ce2754ebc5b6a49650b1ff54.jpg78c360a67a232f0628d3076a6b602a12.jpg

I told myself I wouldn't buy anymore vises, but then this Reed 106 was just 20 min from the house. Pulled fresh from a barn that was being demolished 2 days ago

That looks to be in very nice shape, albeit under the rust and grime. I just refreshed a 106 this past week. It’s a very sturdy vise!
