I have a two speed I bought from Eastwoods that I'm happy with although I'm just a weekend mechanic. It might be an option if you can't find a reasonably priced Baldor one. I would have considered one but they were too much for one I wouldn't use everyday.

That seems like a cool class. We fixed up a old Nova SS in automotives and a 39 Chevy in welding class but they did not turn out nearly as well as the bugeye.

Thanks, we've been looking at those, as time is important, we'll probably go with the Eastman. There's one on Amazon as well at about the same price, but little info. Thanks again

That was a particularly dedicated group of young ladies, and 18 months including summer break and some weekends. The web site is a fun read. The Isetta project we are working on now (www.teamisetta.com) we be a remarkably accurate restoration when finished, we hope by summer.

Brian,

How were the proceeds from the sale of the Bugeye distributed? Did it go to the girls, the school, a charity, etc.

One thing I really liked about the Sprite restoration is how you were able to maintain the definition of the beaded chassis seams. You sound like the kind of hands-on teacher who is a credit to your profession. I bet you and the girls hated to see that labor of love ride off into the sunset.

was curious if it was the teacher or one of the girls..............seems like the school has a very thorough k to graduation educational package........interesting idea to show the gals a different route in life by restoring cars.........especially different from the norm............

First, we paid off a rather substantial Visa bill for 18 months of parts etc., the remainder was divided equally between the five of us that put up the initial money to buy the project. Three of the girls used their money for college, one traveled in India for several months, and I put my share towards buying the current Isetta project.

It's a very 'organic' program as far as electives. The class actually grew out of a girl's (13 to 15 year-olds) blue grass band we formed, when two of them asked me if I could teach them about cars and how they worked.

I took three of them to Phoenix for the preview and to watch it sell. While there, they were interviewed by the Speed Channel for TV, and an L.A. radio station. Speed still runs the interview once in a while. The car drew lots of attention, and we had a slide show running next to the car during preview. The girls answered questions about the restoration, and were totally blown away by all the fuss. I wanted them to see the enormity of what they had accomplished in person; something besides just me telling them what a great job they had done.
They spoke at some length with the new owner and were very pleased that it was going to a good home. The girls are from a very small school in the Sierra Foothills and were a bit dazed by the whole experience.
