Finally Remodeling the Garage! recommendations welcomed.

First off I am new here but so pumped to find a forum that so many are still using. I lived on forums for years and found it a much better tool than facebook. Now I sound like an old guy. But that’s ok I embrace it.

After living here 4 years it’s finally time to get the garage in shape. The color was awful!!

So I started off by getting a POD and loading everything into it while selling a bunch of bicycles that had just been collecting dust.

I ordered a Challenger 4 post lift which comes in 3 weeks. It will store both of my restored 90s Honda’s from Japan nicely.

So far this has been a nice dyi project and I am getting closer.

Last night I painted the garage Silver Bullet Grey which turned out excellent.

I have raised one garage door so far with the 8500 Jacklift and am doing the other side rbis weekend.

After all that here is my question. What flooring do you guys like best? I was planning to do a 3 step epoxy but have been thinking about doing a lay in floor instead. Pros and cons?

I have worked in several dealership shops and the only floor I ever saw that didn't get torn up was done in actual tile. Last house I used concrete stain. I only did one coat so it wasn't very evenly colored but it got rid of the dust and touchup was 5 minutes w/ a small brush. The house we had built and moved into last spring they did what I assume was a long wet setup period which left the concrete super smooth once the dust was vacuumed up. I haven't put anything on it. I just don't see the point of spending thousands of dollars on something I know won't last. One product I have seen was something that looked like thin concrete w/ tiny pebbles in it. They spread it around, let it set up and then grind/ polish it smooth. That appears like it may last. Hopefully someone here will have experience w/ it.

I’m just excited to find someone with a similar bike number problem. I’ve never understood the epoxy thing, so I’d stain it.

I love mine. Would definitely do it again. It looks good all the time. I actually do work in here as well, never had a dropped screw problem or any other problem that people like to make up.

Snow falls off the car and drains right through, don’t have to walk through the garage lake.

If you’re to do epoxy, I’d only have it professionally done by a firm that first diamond grinds the floor. Prep is so very important for epoxy. Have some friends the cheaped out and either did themselves or a handyman did it by just some scrubbing prior to install and they all have problems. I paid a great firm to do mine, no problems after 6 years. Cost then was 4.50 - 5 bucks a square foot.

Lol yeah it’s a problem for sure. 24 bikes in total. There are always so many choices and ways to ride. N+1 for sure is our moto for cycling.

I agree the prep is where it’s at. I priced renting the grinder from Home Depot. I am pretty ocd in wanting things done the right way. To me thugs are right or wrong. Not just good enough. One reason why I am considering the Racedeck is it’s half the cost of a good job paid by others. And if I move I can take it with me.

I’m currently doing a garage build right now but I’m definitely going to be using race deck flooring. Seems like there are way too many issues with epoxy over time / especially if it’s not done properly.

What are you going to do for lighting?

Will do! Everything seems to be on pause now because of the virus but hopefully once it’s all settled I can finish my cabinet install, wash and clear the cement floor to get it ready for racedeck lol

Well I made a lot of progress. I went ahead and did a dark grey epoxy on the floor. That way if any oil or anything spills between the deck it should be able to wash out easily.

Everything is back in place. Now the lift arrives in two days. Pretty pumped to get that up and running.

Looks very nice with the new paint and floor. That is alot of bikes to store. Isn't it hard to get to the bike on top? I wonder if a steady rack would work better for you?

You did epoxy with RaceDeck over it? I am confused. That has to put you in the $6/sq. ft price range. I would just have gone all out and done porcelain tile at that point for less money. Floor looks awesome though.

If you don't mind sharing, what was the overall cost to do the tiles on your floor? I really like the look but have to budget for my garage (broken slab, need it lifted). I wouldn't be doing an epoxy however, so I'm just curious about the tiles. They look great!

It’s actually pretty easy to take up and down. I did look at the steady rack but also wanted something a little more Aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I also have another 4 bikes that I am mounting on another wall as well.
