Don: I think you mentioned your big PPG party was the 14th and hope it was a success. I know you wanted the Alimite work station completed, but you came a long way in a very short time and i'm sure they will love it just as much at their next party.

have a great day!!

I used zolatone on a project years ago and always wanted to try it again but haven't got the project that suits it. Can't wait to see your use of it and hear more about it if you get the chance.

good morning y'sguy
I did get the bench interior sprayed with Zolatone and it looks ok the nozzle on my spray gun was a bit small so it broke up the white chunks a bit more than I wanted but it's ok

As always, nice work!

Thank youlosdudes

The party was canceled 10 minutes after Ann got home from buying all the food for the party!! the good thing however is that we don't have to go to the store for food for a long time lol

Don: i'm sorry to hear your big party was cancelled, but maybe having all that food might be a good thing. yesterday when we went to one of our local stores to pick up a few (not many) groceries the checker said the store was sold out of hamburger and chicken.

not sure how all this is going to shake out, but I feel for those that need a weekly paycheck that relies on some sort of service business. they closed all the restaurants, gyms and not sure exactly what all around here, but I met a couple yesterday from the other side of the state at a usually busy outlet mall that maybe had maybe 20 shoppers.

take care!!

Yes it's going to get interesting around here for a while. We are getting calls from friends asking if we have extra eggs and the avocados are ripe so we are giving them away too

I have enough paint and sand paper to hold me over so I'm set to stay in the garage for a month.:beer::beer:

Today's progress was pretty good. The rain has stopped and it was a very nice day to play in my garage.

Working on the alemite work bench, I have managed to get the Zolatone sprayed on the inside of the bench

2020-03-17 16.17.04 by don long, on Flickr

I also have repaired the other bench door and both of the doors are primed and waiting to be block sanded before getting the yellow paint applied

2020-03-17 17.22.14 by don long, on Flickr

I've started working on the bench top by grinding the paint off and welding bolts to the bottom of it.

Don nice work on the bench. Here all the stores are out of toilet paper. Go figure. So far the food situation is OK. Goes to show how many people eat out and do not cook. Maybe they usually hold it until they get to work too.:lol_hitti

Bobby
That's funny toilet paper is at a premium here too. Saw a video where a guy paid for his starbuck coffee with squares of TP

The bench is coming along and is a good project. The doors on the bench are in primer again tonight and the bench top is all bondoed up and needs sanded.

I drove over to my stripper buddy's house and picked up the back panel for the alemite unit

2020-03-19 13.06.28 by don long, on Flickr

I'll bolt it up in the morning

2020-03-19 13.06.14 by don long, on Flickr

I also picked up the Pennzoil curb sign. I really like the handy work on the base.

After all the work

2020-03-19 13.04.30 by don long, on Flickr

The conversion of the 30's garage into a Pennzoil garage is coming along
This is where my focus is now.

Hi Don and Ann
Great work as always. Sorry to hear about the PPG party being cancelled. We are in a country lockdown in Australia starting tonight. No-one other than citizens coming in and citizens not allowed to leave for probably 6 months. Our booked trip to Canada and Alaska of course now not happening at the end of April! Deferred to next May so maybe see you then.
Cheers David and Vanley

Man that Penzoil is a work of art and love the detail on the base of the stand. The Alemite bench is going to look the part as well. Looking forward to the finished project.

Hi David

Sorry to hear that you guys are in the same boat as us What a pita this is
There is a silver lining with canceling the PPG party It was canceled 10 minutes after Ann and the wife from PPG returned home from shopping for all the food for the party. The food is all stored here so while we aren't able to leave the property We are all set for food and drink.
Hope it doesn't last too long
Hope to see you soon

Don
You do the most beautiful work on everything. That sign and the alemite bench are beyond words. My hat is off to you sir.

That sign base was a real challenge because it was soooo rough
My understanding is the whole state is shut down but Not everyone is paying attention.
I'm in no hurry to leave my property and have no reason to .

so cool Don!

Thanks Jeff, I agree

Don, thanks for showing all the projects underway. Takes my mind off less positive things. Sometimes (like every day) it's good to be retired.

Hi Bob
Thanks for the visit. I'm not retired I just don't leave to go to work and there is no pay check on Fridays Lol life is good even today

Thanks for those kind thoughts. the Alemite bench is a huge project that has consumed a lot of my time and energy, but It's proving to be worth the effort

Looking very classy Don. Love the red and black. I assume these benches are normally white? You’ve taken it to the next level for sure.

Amazing work on the workbench:thumbup: You really take things to the next, or final level:bowdown:

The lightning makes it pop nice. Have a great "quarantine" time in your wonderland Don:beer: I'm glad we have a lot of unfinished projects:lol:

Yes you are correct all of these benches started out life as white but I think that color gives them more personality.
The work bench will really liven this thing up.

You give me inspiration, seeing that welding bench was amazing.
I do miss going to the hardware store to pick up special fasteners for my projects I'm glad that I have a pretty good supply. those LED lights were in my supply cabinet.

That is really beautiful!

Thank you Patlun

It is going to be fun redesigning the display garage around this bench.

The Alemite bench is at a point where I can only spend a small amount of time working on it each day due to the drying times on the primer and paint so I have started another Alemite project. It's a rolling lubster

This is my example.

c1a13cf1b393bb61a0519c7e6d9063f7 by don long, on Flickr

This is my new project.
It came in the mail wrapped in shrink wrap only

1 by don long, on Flickr

When I got it unwrapped I found it was damaged and not complete.

3 by don long, on Flickr

It was full of grease on the inside that needed to be removed and cleaned before I could start working on it.

6 by don long, on Flickr

I scraped and wiped and rubbed until I could see a little progress. Lacquer thinner worked best to thin out the grease.

10a by don long, on Flickr

With the insides cleaned I could start working the dents out of the can.
I removed the handles and moldings before removing the damage.

16 by don long, on Flickr

after a bit of hammering and finessing with a dolly the can is looking much better

19 by don long, on Flickr

Now it is starting to look like the yellow one.

20 by don long, on Flickr.

Now back to the bench project.
The bench top is primered and the bench has been sanded and reprimed

Don, I don't know if it helps but you can determine what picture used to be there.

  1. Put your cursor over the thing telling you the picture is gone.
  2. Right click on it so a menu pops up.
  3. Left click on the "Inspect Element" item near the bottom of the menu.
  4. The name of your photo should show up as part of the highlighted line in the window that opens at the bottom of your screen.

Yes I have plenty to keep me busy and I'm fortunate to have built up my supplies so I have no reason to leave the plantation lol
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and this crazy ends soon

Unfortunately It doesn't help because it gives me the tiny pic number that doesn't exist in my computer.
So I'm going through my picture folders and picking out new shots that are relevant to the conversation and I can change my words to match the new picture (Way time consuming and it is overloading my Flickr account :lol_hitti
Nice to hear from you again

We could have a picture issue as I have a PM about a similar issue. I need information as to how they are hosted.

Simon
My photos were hosted by tiny pics and they closed shop

I've been staring at that Alemite greaser for a few days and can't make myself get started on the body work. I'm still pushing the Alemite bench forward and sitting doing smaller projects while I wait for paint to dry

Today was a good productive day working on the Alemite bench.
The kick panel on the bench is painted red to match the side runners on the back panel.

2020-03-24 16.55.03 by don long, on Flickr

And the doors for the front of the bench are painted yellow

2020-03-25 16.35.52 by don long, on Flickr

The bench is masked and the top of the bench is ready so tomorrow first thing the black paint will fly and the worst of this project will be done.

The bench is still up side down

Don: more great progress on your Alemite bench. just curious on your other thread you mentioned a BRAIN FART and painted your top grey so did you mean to do that or just thought it might look better in grey than black? I think it looks great with another color, but it's your Penzoil garage so do what you think is best.

also if you go in your GJ settings you can change your posts per page view to 100 if that might make it a bit easier for you to get all the pictures re posted on your great thread. AND it makes it easier to read long threads or fast moving ones so you don't have to keep clicking on the next page.

sending prayers that you and your family are staying clear of Corona and of course all your friends too.

cheers

Thanks for the help Drives.
The brain fart was a direct change of plans. As I looked at the bench base after the first coat of black paint and decided to not paint the bench top black because I thought that with all the other parts being black it might be too much if the top were black too so, I stopped before I sprayed black on the bench top that was ready and waiting for the first coat of black at the same time as the base

Unruh I just found it.
That was a surprise :shocking: I didn't know they were going to show that clip.
A buddy of mine was on the program when these guys did a V.W. van he was the buyer for it. He set me up for an interview with these guys. Just Shaun and 1 camera guy showed up and spent about an hour here and they said that they would let me know if something was going to happen and they said that they would be back to shoot again after the car was done and that was the last I heard of it until tonite.
