Im looking for some pictures of wrench rolls. I found some through google, but not much. I have a few sets of wrenches that Im going to make some rolls for and need some inspiration. Is canvas the standard material?

She can't sew, but I can, so I get the job. :bounce: I was hoping for canvas though. I hadn't thought about vinyl....:headscrat

Go with the canvas.
It is a lot easier for the DIYer.
The OEMs use plastic because it is easier to mfg in volume.
But on all of mine the plastic has cracked from being bent in the same place all the time.

+1 on the canvas . . . When it's dead of winter plastic one's don't unroll very well and tend to crack they also make a terrible crunching noise.

Stick to a light heavy duty fabric, it roll nicely, wont crack, and won't make any odd sounds when you roll it up in the dead of winter. And it will actually lay flat so you can see what the tools are, and not have to keep unravelling the damned thing!

This is from Wright. Denim looks cool but it's a little thick/ heavy for a big set (too many wraps).

Here here a couple of pics of my Proto 500 wrench roll. This one is "simulated" leather, but Proto did sell genuine leather rolls.

So do some of you guys store your wrenches in the roll? If so is it better use of space? I can remember my dad always kept his in a roll(s).

Im pretty sure the bucket boss kind are ballistic nylon. I have had the for 3yrs and workd in deep freezers. They have not cracked, where those vinyl kind might crack. Unsure about the leather.

Yep, I keep some of my wrench sets in a roll. As to better use of space, not really, just old school force of habit. :spit:

You can't really appreciate wrench rolls until you see them in their native habitat. They're on the left side.

Here's the SAE set (that's 1/4" to 1" two of each wrench).

Here's the Metric set (that's from 6mm to 25 - two of each wrench). Unfortunately when you unroll the wrap it's wider than the toolbox.

They're both made of denim by my lovely bride and have lasted me more than five years. I don't wrench as much as when I was younger but they do get thrown around and used a lot. Most of them are S&K with an occassional Bonney thrown in.

It does more than "look nice". I have a big Snap-On set in a roll. That thin little T-shirt material they use. It has completely worn through. The thing about the denim is that it is durable. They hold up. At least this is a US company that isn't looking to cut costs and corners wherever they can.... :shocking:

+1 for denim. You can use store bought denim fabric or you can use old pants legs. I have some of both. Most of them are at work but here are some that I have at home. The roll on the left is made from fabric, the one on the right from a pair of old Wranglers. Yes, I had help with these (Thanks, Mom).

You can also use the old pants legs for other tool holders. Just cut out the required length to form a tube. Turn it inside out and stitch across the bottom. Then you can either sew on some velcro strips to opposite sides of the top or sew in a hem for a drawstring. I use one of these to keep the larger wrenches (>1" and large adjustables) that I don't want in a roll. I put one stitch from the bottom to about 2/3 of the way up to help keep the tools organized. The other one in the photos is a rope bag.

I agree. They work well. I have found though that when you use wrenches you almost always need a backup to hold the nut. So if you always need two why not store them that way?

I'll get right on that. Done. Most of those are actually spares and I've already sold off several wrench sets. Until I started my clean up I really had no idea how much **** I've accumulated and I don't do as much mechanical work as I used to, I've got to get rid of a lot of it or I'll end up on that Hoarders show.

Hey, I have stuff no one else has, most of it's because no one else wants it, but my talking Alf doll is pretty cool.

Yeah, she has one hell of a collection. Now if she said Snap-On offered her money to display her tool collection I'd believe it.
