Shouldn't this ad violate Ebay's policies?

Yes of course it does. Who knows what will happen. ebay will let it slide unless SO complains or unless they get enough complaints.

Doesn't really matter though I can't imagine anyone paying $500 for that box.

Perhaps multiple reports to e-bay of keyword spamming is the reason:bounce:

I am really in the dark as to why Snap On is having listings for their products removed. Snap On originally sold the piece, why would it be a concern that someone is trying to sell off their own personal items? Something isn't computing in my mind.

They are removing items that are falsely listed. Not because they are snap on.

I think the majority of the ads removed are account the Warranty Claim, Not the validity of the product, Maybe not in the OP's link but most.

Im glad it was removed asap. Freaking ticks me off...(keyword spamming and fraudulent listings). Wish ebay would get tougher with those sellers and ban them after a couple infractions.

If you think this is bad, just *try* listing Rosetta Stone software on Ebay. The company that publishes the software has individuals whose sole job function is to search for unauthorized sales of Rosetta Stone on the secondary markets and have them removed. Why? Because when you "buy the software" for $200, you are really just buying the "right to use the software" and the end user agreement has wording that prevents you from reselling it after you are done learning the language (or have given up).

you have to purchase the license agreement to use someones logo or name

Sureeeee. That's why I can find 700 Toyota Camrys listed on Ebay, maybe 10% of which are being offered by dealers that have a licensing agreement. How many pairs of Nike shoes are listed on there . . .what percentage have license agreements in place? All the independant sellers trying to get rid of the car in the driveway they bought 10 years ago shouldn't be able to list their cars without paying licensing fees? That's pretty much Rosetta Stones take on it, because they realized that the secondary market would obliterate the need for anyone to actually buy the software from them.

Nope, but I did have a Danish one I sold last year. Luckily some interested buyer emailed me warning me the auction would be pulled (which it was, within about 24 hours) and we arranged a sale off-site.

OMG you violated eBay rules! Why can't you just play by the rules? I'm sure the eBay black helicopters have been dispatched!

:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Well, dude was like "hey, I'm not even going to bid because Ebay is going to pull this within 24 hours, but here is my email"

I emailed the seller last night. Told him mentioning Snap On in the title, and having a Snap On nameplate on a Kennedy box seemed like a ploy to deceive. This is his response...

First of all it clearly states what is included in the listing, and that it is a KENNEDY TOOL box. Second, thier is a snap on logo because it did house Snap On Tools. No deceiving here, and their is NO evidence of it whatsoever!

I reported several keyword spammers dozens of times to eBay and none were pulled. I was a little annoyed at the spamming at first, then it became a game to see if eBay would do anything about it. Nope...

yup and if snap on gets it up the chain in time ebay will remove it instantly.

I guess if you know the right number or person to call. I can tell you that they pay little attention to outsiders complaining on their behalf.

Here's an example a little more serious than key-word spamming:

I saw a Snap-on tool collection on eBay. Went to examine it, and made a deal with the guy. By doing a search, I found evidence that he still owed money to Snap-on, and had no legal right to sell the items. Guy denied it, but a call to Snap-on credit confirmed the outstanding debt was real. Guy said he would straighten it out, and get back to me, gave me a whole song and dance. After this guy wasted quite a bit of my time, I was a bit pissed to see that not only did he not pull his eBay listing after he had a handshake deal with me, but he relisted the item after he was informed by me and S-o credit he was not permitted to sell it. I sent an email to the S-o eBay police....they did nothing to pull the ad.

So basically, they seem to care more about you using Snap-on and Blue Point names together in a title, than they do about a guy selling an unpaid box.

Its called a lack of manpower in the field. They do not have enough people chasing deadbeats.

I agree. It's a backhanded way to use Proto, but if he's including an actual Proto item, it can be acceptable.

On the other hand, who the f/k cares if Snap on tools were once in that box?! Gold bars could've been stored in that box, but if they ain't included in the sale, what f/k/n difference does it make?! :wtf:
