Garage Security System

After weeks of research I decided to pull the trigger on a security system. I ended up going with Ring after I heard some shady people where snooping around recently. Very pleased with it overall. Everything was very easy to install and its only 10 bucks a month for pro monitoring. Phone app is great too.

All doors and windows have sensor alarms, 3 motion detectors, live feed camera inside/outside. Intergrated with Alexa, which is cool because I feel like Tony Stark when I walk in sometimes.

No false alarms, reliable, low cost, user friendly system, the alarm itself is VERY loud. Im extremely pleased. If anyone is thinking about adding a security system, I would highly recommend Ring.

I did this myself in a day. Would take far less if youre a tech guy, which I am definitey not.

I had ADT come out the week before. Some weird guy with what looked like outdated eqiupment who seemed to know absolutely nothing. He suggested I place my indoor cam on my workbench because placing it on a wall with an actual good view was " too labor intensive". He then quotes me 60 bucks per month. I showed him the door at that point

The Ring stuff is not real cheap but does work well enough. The alerts can come in at random delay times because it's cloud based. I've seen door bell alerts lag as much as 2 minutes. The camera/flood setup was a huge PITA but seems to work once finally configured. And I'm an "IT Guy". It's decent - we have a couple - not any worse than any other consumer affordable equipment. You pay a fee for storage in the cloud so cost of equipment is not total cost to operate.

PS - on the shop cam, it's connected to a switch for power. It's a total PITA to have the phone bouncing off the bench every time you walk into the cam's alert area. You can "snooze" the alarm, but it only snoozes the alarm for a fix period and only on the device with the app. So any other devices - other phones, Alexa units, etc - still go off every time you enter a monitored area. Your device may be silent, but the reset of the house sounds off multiple times. On the shop, when I'm out there - I turn that SOB off.

The door bell cam alerts at least 10 times when I'm mowing the front yard. Necessary, but irritating.

I had to come up with something to use the sensors on the garage doors. I used small door hinges and gorilla taped them near the top of my 12 ft doors. Gravity moves the hinge when the door lifts and goes horizontal and they trigger. Worked out pretty slick. I made a video for you guys but cant seem to upload it here.

Ill snap a photo and post it later this evening when I get home from work.

HAHA Yes, I did notice that as well! I like it though because I know everything is working.

Im using a Ring pop up cam. Its not hard wired its battery operated. When I hit the snooze button on the app it doesn't detect movement until I un snooze it. Works pretty good. No issues thus far.

Ring recently added a home/away mode feature that should fix this, right? I only have a doorbell with them so I haven't tried it, but I need to set up something at the new place when I get power out there.

Just the regular WIFI spotlight Cam (battery powered).
