Jack Stands or Pads made for Pinch Weld use?

I have a variety of jack stands for general use but what i don't seem to have is a jack stand (or detachable pad ) that would be good to use with pinch weld lift points as cars seem to use a lot these days.

I know the preference is to find some underbody structure that is flat to use a jack stand with from but sometimes that might be too difficult or intrusive and the point i want to lift is right at that pinch weld.

I haven't seen a pad that is durable enough to use on VW for instance. I bought a hard rubber one and after a few uses is falling apart and a big urethane one is not deep enough in the slot.

I would prefer something that had a deep slot but maybe only 1/4 wide for this

Anyone know of anything that might be helpful?

I just bought the jack pads that fit my floor jacks and cut a groove to fit the car. Works perfect. 10 bucks for two of the.

Good idea but is the puck thick enough for the depth of the groove to support the contour of the pinch weld?

I bought a set of four discs with grooves already cut that work great. Unless you have a pile of hockey pucks and a safe way to cut a notch, just buy them. Mine are thicker as well

I do not think a puck is nearly thick enough to touch anything but the pinch weld

That's what I thought. If you come up with a link to what you purchased and worked, please share.

There is no good way to lift by the pinch welds. The fact of the matter is that the pinch weld will most likely crack paint around where you lift.

If you live in the desert this might not be a problem; but anywhere where rust is a problem will mean rusting pinch welds.

I don't know if this will satisfy your requirement but it is interesting. Saw it while watching the video from the HF jack stand recall thread.

On our "modern" cars, I don't mess with the pinch welds. I use Esco (flat topped) 3-ton stands under structural members. To lift the cars, I have a rubber puck that fits on my trolley jack, and lift on the front or rear crossmembers.

I discovered ESCO a few years ago and they are GREAT! They can get pricey or just look for sales. I would highly recommend them based on my own personal use on several cars and trucks both foreign and domestic. :)

I admit, I just jack up the pinch-welds are all mangled and smashed to the body, and then I tag them with some rust converter.

I just use regular hockey pucks without any cutout. If you jack the pinchwelds at where you're suppose to (between the little triangles cut into the pinchweld jacking locations I've never had a problem with these bending over. I think because they are intentionally reinforced. After all that's where you put the rubber pads of a lift. The lift pads don't have any slots in them do they?

Amazon had them for $50/pair when I bought two pairs... of course, Amazon isn't the best way to get anything in a timely manner right now. A bit expensive, but they are silly nice.

I still use traditional axle stands for the cars from the 80's and 90's.

My bad! I'm sorry!

I just double checked, and the pair was $110. I'm surprised my wife let me get away with that. :)

-Ryan

Ah OK, I feel better now. If I came across them for $50 a pair, I would probably buy a couple sets for no good reason whatsoever
