Strout,
Is that blue tracked thing the Track Dump? That’s a cool looking machine.
I think you mentioned that with our Vidmar trade in my driveway. Wasn’t it heading to the island?
Dad thoughts: Just roll with it. Sure he annoys the **** out of you, but many would kill to play with big deadly toys with their dad. Go saw some hemlock.
Here is the lumber so far:

That is the track dump, we call it the mini, because we also have a much larger one and yes it goes out to the island, good memory. :)

Strouty I'm sitting here having a little too much wine, but I wanted to say without hesitation to enjoy your father with all his warts, and yours. I would imagine that the vast majority of us would like to have our fathers back even for a little while.

Who pissed in your Cheerios? ;)

I get what you are saying, the problem I have with it is that he asked me to help get things setup, then instead of dealing with it systematically, the sawmill project has vomited all over the hill.

Yes, the conflict here is that you want to get all your ducks in row, systematically set things up and tweak it until it is a well oiled machine, and your dad just wants to cut up the dam logs and haul them to the dock.

I fully realize that you will be dealing with the aftermath. Welcome to being a Son. Been there, done that, have the T shirt.

On the other hand, sometimes it is fun to just dive into something, adjust a bit on the fly, and get er done. I'm on dads side this time.
A week or two and all the logs will gone and you can get back to wandering around overthinking things.

I can’t wait. ;)

I suspect there will be plenty of Dad time to feel warm and fuzzy about, sometimes there is just an overload.

I do get everyone’s point, I just like to ***** and rant. As far as Dad and I, we are not in conflict about things, I am just frustrated and venting safely here. In fact as I said before, I do think the employee leaving will be a long term relationship builder/headache for both of us.

Vent away.
I’ll ask for all the internets. When can we get some pics of a 200ft long self milled Hemlock dock with a crane on the end?

That freaking show made me cry a couple times, the dynamics between the father, son, brother, and business could be very accurate.

When that show first started that was my father and I as well, nothing like the end though. That was an eye opener for me, especially after other family members had comments like, I saw you and your dad on tv, Hey they made a documentary about you and your dad, eh?

Did you get any snow up there? How far are you from that paper mill that just exploded?

No snow, but it sure is chilly, the paper mill is about an hour and a half north of me. I have worked on the meteorological tower they have there, but that was a long time ago.

Picked up two pallet jacks this morning, I am going to do a couple errands, then go to the SG for a bit, I want to get the excavator blade cleaned up so I can get it painted and reinstalled. I am going to use Rust-Oleum, with a reducer, hardener, and Japan drier, we will see how it works, most likely won't get to paint it today, probably wait until Sunday, it is supposed to be close to 60 degrees.

This is why I used to love watch "American Choppers" Like looking in a mirror sometimes.

I couldn't watch that show. Dad got me hired at his place for an intern while i was in college. We had a couple of knockdown dragouts at work in front of everybody. It was not a good time.

The last few days have had a half dozen vehicles on the hill that have no reason to be there, my neighbor has a camera system and the vehicles have been recorded. They come up in broad daylight like it is a public road. Had a parked car last night, left a note and the kid called me, said he was taking pictures of the sunset.... from one of the towers, I told him not to come back and his plate was recorded.

You need to put Private Property signs and a gate at the bottom of the hill. I’m surprised this hasn’t been a problem before. With no one living up there, TH could become the new Lover’s Lane if you don’t nip it in the bud from the start.

You could always park one of the trucks across the driveway to block it off, but that would be a PITA getting in and out.

Any property that isn't lived on full time is a problem with trespassing in this day and age. I'm surprised you don't get more of it to be honest.

The issue is twofold, people are out of work and now the weather is nice. Most people would run away from the road when it is snow covered.

I understand that, especially the tower site, at least mine, there are four up on the hill.

It is really chilly today, I got most of the blade degreased, one more coat of oven cleaner and a bit more scrubbing should take care of it. Still need to do a bit of wire wheeling to clean off the rest of the loose paint, then I can do the actual painting this weekend when it warms up. I figure by Tuesday the Mitsu will have a working blade with non leaking rams, that will be awesome!

Blade came out pretty nice, the oven cleaner really eats stuff off the steel.

I am probably going to have to sandblast a few places, also grind some high spots, when I get done, I won’t be able to use it, won’t want to scratch the shinny paint. ;)

I found that if you put a couple of skulls up on pikes at the end of the drive it deters most people...

Tonight I was offered a truck and trailer combo that I am not sure I can pass up, I know, the last thing I need is another truck, but the deal is so good that I am having trouble saying no. I will post details if the deal goes through, don't want to jinx it. ;)

That would probably work well, then I could get some pet dragons.

This guy built his own castle with a fire breathing dragon!

http://www.bishopcastle.org/

I suspect you have plenty of stuff laying around to make your own dragon at least! That shop oil heater comes to mind, for the fire part anyway.

And hey, I think the castle only burned down once...

The blade is looking good.

Do you have a drone? Overhead shot of the TH and SG would be pretty cool to see or not.

Definitely need to up some posted signs at least.

Here is the truck and trailer, needs some work, but basically bought the trailer and the truck was free, I think I can make it useful.

It is actually pretty high off the ground, but certain places are definitely an issue, there is a place near the Hill that you can’t go with that truck and trailer combo for sure. Usually it involves try to make a 90 degree turn with a hump in the middle.

I don’t know how well it will do with fire trucks, it has about a 23’ well, so anything longer has to go up on the rear wheels.

Guy that is selling it says take it for a week and decide if I want to do the deal, I am going to go over it with a fine tooth comb, but even with issues, the package is a really good deal.

I hate to say it, but that looks like a great buy. Although you could always use it for a week to move everything, then tell him no thanks just to get it out of your system.

I am fixing a few issues, truck has a check engine light on and I want to know what that is about for sure. Probably pull the top cover and look at the top end. I am sure it should have the overhead run, buddy says EGR cooler needs to be checked and cleaned. Also need to do a couple more flushes with dawn to get all the oil out of the cooling system.

After doing my research and pricing out things, looks like the deal is dead, too many potential issues for a truck I don’t love.

Ok ladies and gentlemen, make a note of the date and time that Strouty turned down a truck.:thumbup:

Sometimes the deal just isn't as good as it seems. Glad you stopped when you did.

Stouty, the tip I was given for cooling system flush is dishwasher detergent, because it is non foaming. I have one (had a few over the years) of the infamous 4.3L V6's of GM fame, and have tried this with success, when the intake gaskets failed. I think it's a good thing you don't need this tip now, but still a good tip to keep up your sleeve. Harry

That was only the tip of the iceberg, but I heard dawn was what should be used.

I am still looking for a decent trailer, hopefully I can find something that isn’t a project like the cheap tilt deck.

Strouty I’m confused. But that nothing new

I thought you said this was a buy the trailer at a decent price and the guy said take the truck too. No?
