Trying to locate a #8 Bolt Extractor

I have a Symmons Temptrol shower faucet that needs rebuilding. I have all of the parts AND the special four-way tool from Symmons to install and remove the cold and hot water seats.

I -ALSO- have the extremely common issue of the cold water seat basically being stuck and the tool stripping out the brass when trying to take it out. My research has basically shown me that about the only hope I have of getting this thing out at this point is by using a bolt extractor and that I need a #8 to do it. The opening of the cold water seat is in the area of 3/4", so that size seems right.

Can anyone tell me where I can actually buy one of these things? Box home improvement stores, auto parts stores, plumbing supply stores, TOOL stores all don't have them. They are basically nowhere to be found.

Alternatively, if someone knows of a way to get that cold water seat out without the use of an EZ Out, please share!

Sounds like you're looking for a 3/4" internal pipe extractor? That be a #8

Either a cam action that expands when you turn it or one with a tapered spiral shank?



And you have a square tool now thats not working?

I have a set of these and they don't work. The largest one is just a touch too large (it barely is able to start to cut into the metal and doesn't get enough bite to hold) and the next one down is too small.

I've seen items like this, but no one ever talks about using them. The inside of this particular piece is not constant (after the initial opening, it increases in diameter before reducing again), so I have no idea if it would actually be able to grab on with how it's designed since this is intended for something different.

Maybe? It would be great if I could find someone, anyone, that had used this exact item to do this particular task that could validate that the next to the last one is the right size. Otherwise, it's almost $40 to "try" it.

I haven't seen these, but same concerns as the first item plus they seem to be for fixed sizes (no taper) and this isn't a standard inside diameter of pipe.

This looks like it "could" be the right thing, but what the photo shows is a product that's threaded the wrong direction. This would not work for extraction as pictured.

It's the larger of the two shown in the picture. The section that's threaded (on bottom in the pic) is the outer portion as it threads into the valve body.

I'd try using one of these internal pipe wrenches before resorting the common bolt extractor like the HF link but IMO that style is probaly better than the long taper ones

I've used the Snap On rebranded ones of these. They have worked very well on removing broken brass fittings.
