Do you have any plans to make lighter ball peen hammers? 26oz is the smallest I see on your webpage and that's pretty heavy. Anything like 16oz, 12oz or 8oz.?

We won’t be making a ball peen smaller than our 26oz hammer. We make our hammers to have a dead blow action, and we could not get this in a hammer in the 16oz range. Many years ago, Stanley came out with a very small ball peen (urethane with a steel head), and there was little demand for the hammer. For those who don’t know, Stanley purchased its dead blow hammer line from the predecessor to Trusty-Cook in the early 1980s.

You will see a company or two advertising dead blow ball peens as 16oz hammers. We manufacture these hammers for these companies, and the hammers are not 16oz. The hammers are our TC26BP. In the past, the GSA required ball peen hammers to be listed by head weight, so everybody incorporated the head weight in their part numbers and many still do. A few years back we switched from numbering our ball peens by the head weight to the actual weight to avoid confusion. Let me know if you have any other questions.

snap on makes an 8oz ball peen dead blow. I very much like this hammer for the small peen end. it is fantastic for peening gaskets and delicate things. the 26oz TC hammer is the same equivalent size as everyone elses 16oz (regular or dead blow) for what its worth. the total weight of the hammer is 26oz. it gets weird going from manufacture to manufacture when things aren't sized similar.

I've asked many times for a smaller DB ball peen. Why did you guys decide to make the model numbers the total weight of the hammer instead of the head weight like every other manufacture does? its very confusing and sometimes mis leading. I think you are missing out on sales on the smaller hammers like the 26oz in my opinion. Just as dnschmidt asked. 26oz is larger when you are talking 16oz range in other brands. Not bashing, you know Ive spent thousands on your hammers and love them to death and recommend them to anyone I can. I wish you made something in the 8oz head weight range with a short handle to fit in mobile tool bags. But, as you stated its not a high demand item.. One of my most used hammers is a no name urethane 8-10 oz hammer with brass faces and a 6" handle. just because it fits into my mobile pack. I also realize that most people work out of a tool box or shop, and my line of work is completely different than 99% of the people out there.

There's been quite a bit of confusion over the years with regards to the weights of the ball peens. We would have customers purchases hammers, weight the hammers, and call and complain that the hammers we sent were the wrong weight. For example, they ordered a 16oz and got a 26oz, or they ordered a 24oz hammer and got a 36oz hammer. We tried to put an end to this confusion.

We have plenty of red cousins back in stock, and we also have blue cousins in stock. We'll be switching to green next week, I believe, so the green cousins should be back soon.

Any chance you guys will do a smaller red-headed stubby's cousin? I need one for the gun bench. Have successfully got 5 coworkers to order the stubby after using mine...

Right now, there are no plans to make a smaller version of stubby's cousin. I don't know what might happen down the road, though. We've been getting some requests for smaller hammers.

I'm willing to pass along information on products if the information will help a person find something he/she needs. There are a couple of smaller soft-faced/steel-faced hammers out there. I don't know of anybody who has purchased these tools, but Park Tool has a good reputation.

We have stubby's cousin back in stock. We have quite a few reds and greens, but only a few blue. We have had a tremendous run on ball peen hammers, so steel faces are gone as soon as they are back from heat treat.
