I'm trying to get up to speed on the Reed vises. Is one or both of the Reed vises below an example of the "oval badge" you are inquiring about?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, both of the vises (in the foreground) of your pictures are what I would consider "oval badge" Reeds. I believe both to be made by Columbian, but Angry Beaver is the resident Reed expert and seemed to imply only the gray vise you posted was made by Columbian.
Yes he is and I agree with his implication. Besides the completely different style, the Columbian vises are much lighter than the OEM Reeds. From what data I have gathered, Reed was selling Columbian made machinist vises at least into the very early 2000's.
Thanks for your response!

It seemed like a good day to elephant walk some 6” Wilton vises. What good are toys if you don’t take them out and play with them. 900 lbs of American iron.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200424/e08f5315cf

Glad to see you have all your ducks in a row:thumbup:
Looks great!
Nice job, and I like the tethered pin----I plan to steal that idea![]()

Great job on the Reed. The only problem I see is that the caps still on that cold one.

yeah, I couched by saying to look on both sides. Btw, do you think the oval badge Reeds were not made by Columbian?
I second that question...oval badged Reeds were made by Columbian, right? Or not?

Was able to pick up a C1 this week for less than $100. Date code of 03/09 with a few nicks but in good shape overall.

I'm the one selling the Morgan Vise - I am open to offers, but figured I'd put it out there at that price to see what happens. Not too many 8" Jaw 250lb vises come up for sale, and I'm not in any hurry to sell.... its cool to have sitting in the garage![]()

Saw this for sale locally.....I think the price is absurd, but it's one hell of a big vise and in good condition....8" jaws, Morgan vise, made in Chicago.

Since it's local to me if someone is interested I'd be happy to go check it out for you.
I have a guy coming for it in the morning, and could have another guy lined up if that doesn't pan out. Guess I should have priced it a bit higher. With that being said, I don't see myself ever spending that much on a vise.

This model will lift up to 200 lbs but I have to keep my fingers crossed and my feet out of the way. I think it was VA that mentioned the fact that it has air filled tires and they’re not as stable. The good news is that I find vises in back yards and it travels well.

So, it's only priced right by you if no one comes to look at it? Or if it takes a long time to sell?![]()
Maybe that price is their cut off and not a penny more and you just made it.
BTW, I'd ask $1k+ for my 8" Athol as well. So, I'm with you.![]()
