For work I need to try to find a 4000 rpm or more drill. I like to try to find a cordless one but the only battery platforms I have are DeWalt Milwaukee and Rigid. I found some other manufacturers but I don't want to go into another battery platform. Corded would be ok I was thinking about getting the DeWalt DW217 . Any suggestions would be helpful thank you.

Just curious what you’re using a 4000 RPM drill for?

The DeWalt you mentioned or Milwaukee 0101-20 would be at the top of my list. Bosch, Makita and Hitachi all have high speed 1/4" drills but sometimes you have to look pretty hard online just to find any info on them.

Cordless probably isn't going to be an option as that kind of speed with even a little torque starts to require a lot of power and cordless just can't make the HP that a plug in drill can.

It's a high pressure valve between two sections on the power plant. If it over pressures you can see the top of it pop up from the ground. Normally we just put a new seal and safety wire but I just got a text message on a new procedure and I need a high RPM drill.

I will take a picture of the part when I get to work if you guys are that interested in it. Don't know why the drill press won't work but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I'm interested to see how that valve looks. Power plant you say, so generator(s) is(are) driven by gas turbines?

The power plant " jet engine" and apu "auxiliary power unit" run off of jet fuel.

I was looking through my phone to see if I could find any pictures of the valve did not see any just of the engine itself. But I did find these kind of cool pictures. One is just outside the hangar at sunup and the other is what supplies the power to the aircraft during a in flight power failure just after a ops check.

Interesting, totally different of what I had in my mind. I'm somehow familiar with steam turbines which are used in ships for propulsion and power. Gas turbines, I've seen only one on yacht when I was working as technician (not for them).

Jet engines? I don't have clue about them. Although lately I watched couple youtube videos from AgentJayZ. Interesting stuff. I just love that engineering, high temperatures, velocities, materials.

I have a Milwaukee that will do 4,000 rpm. It's in perfect condition but it's got to be at least 30 years old.

The only Cordless drills that I'm aware of that will do around 4000 RPM are:

Festool
Metabo

The Festool kit is around $650, and the Metabo kit is around $400.

I own a Metabo LTX-3 drill that does 3800 RPM in 3rd gear, and it is an excellent drill.

I thought some Hilti 4 speed drills would have some higher speeds, but they seem to top out around 2000 RPM in 4th gear.

I know DeWalt has made a lot of 3 speed drills, but to my knowledge they all top out around 2000 RPM.

Quite a few corded drills will do 4000 rpm though.

Turkey popper on a jet engine.

I figured it was aviation. I’m an A&P too. I have a Sioux SDR Signature air drill. Excellent drill. Just not cordless - pneumatic.

Cheers!

I can't even remember the brand of the air drill I have it's probably at least 25 years old.The only time I use it now is for doing anything inside the fuel tank.

I've used the Dewalt for 10 years for mixing foam for racing seats, we couldn't find a cordless at the time. If you're not using it constantly, having a cord isnt a big deal.

DeWalt DW217 1/4" VSR, 6.7 amps and 0-4000 rpm.

https://www.dewalt.com/products/power-tools/drills/drills-and-hammer-drills/14-6mm-vsr-drill/dw217

Milwaukee 0101-20 1/4" VSR, 7 amps and 0-4000 rpm.

https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Power-Tools/Drilling/Drill-Drivers/0101-20

Metabo 18V cordless 0-4000 rpm 3/8" chuck

https://www.metabo.com/us/enus/tool...lls/be-18-ltx-6-600261890-cordless-drill.html

Specifically, what do you need the drill to accomplish?

Because rpm is just one aspect of a tool/motor.

The other is torque.

And rpm x torque x (unit correction factor) = power

Do you actually need 4000 rpm? And what has to happen that 'needs' 4000 rpm?

Cordless or corded die grinder can (usually) spin faster than 4k rpm.

Metabo cordless die grinders, one does 25k rpm no-load, the other does 6k rpm no-load.

https://www.metabo.com/us/enus/tools/cordless-tools/cordless-die-grinder/

You mention DeWalt cordless and not wanting to go to a different battery platform. All well and good and I understand that desire, but DeWalt has multiple cordless battery platforms.

18V, 20V MAX, Flexvolt, 12V MAX, 40V MAX OPE.

Found a few of my old air drills. One of them does 4000 rpms. I got the Metabo to why not if work is paying for it.

Thank you for all the replays.
