My cheap utility light solution

I have a couple LED utility lights, the snap-on one that I think a bunch of people here bought a couple years ago and a 3-head husky. I have never loved either as they create wicked shadows and are absolutely blinding to look at.

I picked up three 3' "single bulb" integrated led shop lights at HD for $8 each and zip tied them to the tripod that my snap on light is mounted to. All three are plugged into a cheap 3 outlet extension cord. Seems to work well, so far. As-is, I can't fold it up, but after this project is done, I'll take a look at some solution for improving on that. Maybe some hooks at the top and a bungee cord at the bottom.


Edit: just finished up 2.5 hrs of use and it was awesome. So much better having multidirectional light and having them closer to the ground. Not once did they blind me. I'm sold.

That's a good idea. I have 2 of that same Snap-On led work light and it's brutally bright. The color of the light generated gives me a headache. I'm sensitive.

I will have to look at led tubes as work lights like that.

Used the setup a few more times and it is awesome. I think I am going to add some hooks to the tripod. With a hook at the top and a simple bungee cord at the bottom, i can take the whole setup apart easily, just need to sort out cord management and storage

Ive thought of making something similar as 500w halogens **** down the power grid and get hot on your back. I bought a LED work light from Menards and was thinking of mounting a 48 fluorescent fixture on a stand vertically.

You've given me another idea.

For $7 more, you can go from 3000 to 4500 lumens. And it's only 1/2" wider.

Yeah, I know and intentionally chose the ones I did.

I didn't want it to be blinding and thought those would be too much. This setup is perfect, IMO
