Huot Tool Box info

Tell me more about this Huot Box. I was offered it for $40. I have no experience with this brand. Is it comparable to Kennedy quality wise? I plan to make a restoration project out of it.

Huot made really good boxes. I’ve got one that’s similar but older. If you plan on loading it with tools, it’s well worth the $40. A good quality user box.

I have the same exact box but it's a Craftsman label. It's a decent box if you clean and lube the slides real good. Very sturdy.

Actually Jim, Huot never made Craftsman boxes. If your has handles that look like that, it means it was made by AMD, precursor to Remline. They look similar, but are different companies.

I have a huot stack that is great for all kinds of small things. Going to live by my metal lathe and mill, and hold all of the other small finicky stuff.

I've owned that exact Huot box before, only in a little better shape. They are as well built as the other well known brands of the era. The thing that annoyed me most was the odd lip at the bottom of the box where you set the folding door, which is why I ultimately sent it to a new home.

At 40 bucks the price is sorta OK for around these parts. Another 10 bucks and you could have a SnapOn KR56 from the mid 1950s in the same condition. You'll find that prices vary by region on things like boxes and bench vises, etc.

I brought this box home, it is solid and drawers slide well. The smaller drawers had liners in them so they are in nice unscratched condition. Not sure what the plans are for it yet. Sand and repaint. Or good clean up. If I wanted to preserve original patina what would be the best way to do that? Some sort of spray on clear?

What era would this box possibly be from?
Note the drawers are secured in by a tab similar to old Snap On boxes.

After clean up sand and repaint. New reproduction decal too.
