Yeah he posted here not too long ago. I'm not a vice guy like a lot here but I couldn't click off of that page fast enough once I saw the price

Pretty sure there was a thread he started in the vintage section about trading the 208 for a large anvil. Now i cant find it.

Big vises are expensive because the market is very small. Not a lot of demand for 8” vises these days.

Most places that can afford one of these monsters and can actually justify the money aren’t gonna buy a 70 year old one off Craigslist. They’ll just order one brand new.

It’s a very cool vise and it’s in great shape. But his market is collectors, not real vise users.

I could definitely put that to use, but wouldn't want to insult him with my offer, which would be under 10% of what he's currently asking...

A somewhat comparable new swivel 8" vise sells for around $4,000 so maybe that isn't so far off in price. Hard to say as there aren't many others to compare it to.

Not sure what a new Morgan 8" goes for... that might be about the closest to compare to as far as new vises go.

It goes for less new than hes asking:

What work do you do that REQUIRES an 8" vise? Majority of it is **** swinging or collecting.

The cheater pipe variety; for performing duties vises were never intended for, such as being used as a press.

I'm a real vise user, abusing real vises; we matter.

Ah, I see, you're a not the right tool for the job type, gotcha. HF 20 ton press is much cheaper.

I'm just trolling.

Really though, if I was service truck for heavy machinery in the bush kind of guy, I would strap the biggest vise to the back of my service truck I could find. A cheater pipe is much less effort than lugging a press around.

That's crazy, but there are crazy people.
These work for me. They one on wheels is well over a 100 pounds and does everything I need. Base will hold two 100 pound tractor weights if needed.
Not my lousy beer either.

That mobile stand is great !!! Love the handle bars

Thanks. It's a built in two wheel hand truck.
I do work on gravel or dirt and wanted something big and mobile. It's perfect and heavy

It's kind of neat, but I could never justify a need for it even for $5.00. Then again, I get along pretty well with my teeny $3.00 3 1/4" Littlestown #112.

KBC currently have Wilton 800S on clearance for $1700 for reference on what you could pick a new USA made 8" monster for.

My buddy has this 108R, the stationary mount version. I've personally witnessed guys offer him 1500 for it on 3 separate occasions. That guy is a little high priced, but realistically its worth 1500-2K and someone will pay it. Eventually

Ones that need one, will pay the money. ones that collect them, will pay the money. They didn't make many, and most have been destroyed from years of railroad work, or heavy steel plant abuse. Therefore, the pieces rise. Wiltons are 2/3 the size of these older Reeds.
