Just awesome and good plan
Thanks a lot sir

You know you’re on another level altogether when you customize a Roomba!
Haha, well this was just a little side project for fun. but it actually works so nice (even though the rooWifi module is a bi**), that i just ordered a second module and will have a second Roomba for the ground level of the house :)

As soon as the lawn mower robot arrives, it will get the same treatment so i can control it fully automated and by my smartphone app / Tablet / Switches, whatever i want :)

Soooo. Nothing really big. I had to take a brake from the whole garage-work and spend a bit of time with the actual toys - the cars. but also complete a few things in the house. it's more or less done, aside from a few things that i can only complete in spring when the weather is warmer. and aside from a few program-related upgrades which i plan to impletement for fun's sake :)

While cleaning up some stuff in the basement i found my old workshop lamp and decided i'd better install it on my new workshop tables:
P1260316-Kopie.jpg

So here we go:
P1260317-Kopie.jpg

aaaand done :)
P1260318-Kopie.jpg

Still have some bigger projects in the workshop coming soon. but for now i just enjoy the house and beeing back in the car game :)

So, today i finally spent the afternoon decorating the workshop and garage with all the stuff i've collected over the years :)
P1260342-Kopie.jpg

P1260343-Kopie.jpg

Also installed a vacuum cleaner mounting system, so i can store it nicely...
P1260344-Kopie-rotated.jpg

Decided to hang the original EK9 exhaust system at the wall because it looks nice and saves some space :)
P1260348-Kopie.jpg

Then hung up the Toda Power Banner. Unfortunately my concrete drill broke, so i wasn't able to hang up more stuff today :)
P1260349-Kopie.jpg

But i'm happy with the results and some more boxes on the to-do list are ticked now :)

So. I'm back from Vacation and found some time to invest a bit in security.
Better be safe than sorry. right?
I Installed a few cameras with automatic alarm zones, movement detection etc both in and outside the house (wiring is temporary, ignore that mess)
DSC_0573-Kopie.jpg

It's fully integrated in our smarthome system (and that one is connected to the Alarm system) too, so i can check the camera from all over the world and it makes records and sets the Alarm on various occasions.
Love it so far. still a few more to be installed.

Thanks Growlertdi, Unfortunately the header was too bulky to hang it there too :)

"Überwachung" means surveillance in German.

No, The purpose of this camera is that it shows the entrance from the garage into the house, where there is also a doorbell. My in-laws tend to use this way to get to us, so if they ring the doorbell i get an instant camera-liveview on all devices and can see who is ringing the doorbell in front of which door.

And as an advantage it records if a burglar tries to get into the house this way, and if the in-laws ore some other "guests" are snooping around in my workshop / Garage.

Thanks for the language lesson, I figured it was something like that, but since Uber is such a popular thing here (not for me, but whatever) in the states I thought I would make a little joke :)

Sounds like as good a reason for a surveillance camera as any. :)

Keep up with the updates! its fascinating to watch such a different build come together and with so much space down there, it'll be neat to see what you do with the different areas.

Thanks to COVID-19 shutting down public life here and cancelling all the business events and other things i got som unexpected free time. which of course has te be spent in the garage :) I've completed a bit of wiring (the network part is still on the 2do-list), in the electrical cabinet. which is now much better:
DSC_0583-Kopie.jpg

I moved some parts from its temporary storage next to the EK9 into my basement storage room. Still need to get a better order and everything but at least they're now in a less humid area and out of the way:
DSC_0584-Kopie.jpg

which gave me some extra-space around the Car. Also hung up the Calenders which contain some of the nicer photos of my car:
DSC_0759-Kopie.jpg

Also hung up some more bodyparts which were laying around, for better access to tools and stuff:
DSC_0761-Kopie-rotated.jpg

And finally put up my little collection of die-cast cars.
DSC_0589-Kopie.jpg

since the raw concrete wall behind the sink is prone to get wet, i decided to wax it with bee-wax. It's simply applied with a towel or polishing machine & Disk:
DSC_0765-Kopie-rotated.jpg

The concrete is open porous, so it will **** anything you spill over it. Acid is hazardous to the concrete and other stuff like paint will be sucked into it forever. But if the wax is sucked into the concrete it's like a natural protection film:
DSC_0767-Kopie-rotated.jpg

Once it's dry, you won't notice any big difference to non waxed concrete. Also did the same to my raw-concrete wall in t he office:
DSC_0768-Kopie-rotated.jpg

Since the roads are empty and the weather is nice. i think it's time to get the EK9 out of hibernation for a nice drive and get it ready for the summer season 2020

Woah, never heard of such a device, but it looks really cool!
They were quite common in the 70ties. Almost all big industrial companies used microfiches to store data, drawings, partlists etc. Including most of the car companies.

If you go to your local library you can pretty often check out old newspapers from that era which is stored on microfiches.

It's a bit pointless to have them these days, since most of the data has been digitalized at some point, but it's fun and they are cheap to find these days. Im thinking of buying my own one, just for funs sake :)

Check with a local College Library, they older microfiche readers with printers built in. Some use 35mm rolled M/F film, instead of the plate style slides.

Unfortunately College library is a think you won't find in switzerland. You would need to go to the university or a public library. but anyway it's cooler to own my own Microfiche reader :) I have the data in digital form already anyway :)

Many companies still have their parts manuals and refuse to spend the time to scan/digitize them. I have too many years in the dark corner of the parts room squinting at the microfiche. Many of the machines on them are still in use - Kubota power plants, Volvo/White/GMC/Western Star trucks and Deutz engines to name a few that I've made a living off of. But very cool find.

Is that front grill hanging above your workbench a Datsun 120Y grill? It looks like Datsun or Toyota.

I like your collection of diecast cars!

here is my collection:

https://flic.kr/p/2iNGMEZ

.

and up close:

All the ones in this photo, i bought while in Japan from various hobby stores, mostly in Akihabara. These were bought over 2 separate trips, i wish i could get more, but luggage was getting heavy and expensive for being over weight!! :(

https://flic.kr/p/2iNCm11

I actually have a Video of me going to the hobby stores In Japan to buy these models, I'll show you if you like:

And these models i bought here in Australia, and built and painted myself:

Instead of bee-waxing, why not use a concrete sealer?

I bouight the wax mostly for my raw-concrete wall in my office and with the bee-wax you keep the natural structure and coloring of the concrete. It's also cheap, easy to apply and smells good. then i just decided to also use it for the workshop and garage. works well so far :)

So, now the garden and surrounding area and final details seem to come to an end too. so it gave me the opportunity to finally spend some time and clean up the garage, go through all the parts and label them (still to be improved):
DSC_1069-Kopie.jpg

And then my project car finally came back for a temporary visit from the bodyshop into it's new home:
P1270087-Kopie.jpg

This car is basically the reason i built the whole garage / Workshop area with the house, and i home to complete the project over the next few years:

I'm also completeing some visual detail work on the network DIN-rail cabinet and will update you on that soon as well, when everything is completed. seems like the parts i ordere were the wrong ones...

Sooooo. I have been adding electronic stuff here and there, working out some minor flaws and completing the garden. I guess by now the House / Garage / Workshop is officially finnished and i finally have time to jump back into my car projects full-time (besides from working, of course)..

Well but not before showing you the final evolution of the Electric cabinet. It used to look like this for a long time. i've been experimenting with a few different things, adding more security cameras, network-stuff, Audio-Zones, and electronic wiring in and around the house and didn't want to "finalize" it before the rest is done. but well - not it is. This is what it used to look it in it's "unfinnished state". My OCD hated me for this:
P1270101-Kopie.jpg

I decided to improve some stuff the electrician made at the same time and have it a bit sleeker. To be honest i've seen nicer wiring. but it works and it would be too much of a job, including switching of mains power supply for some days, etc..., which is just not worth having nice wiring underneath the covers :)
P1270151-Kopie.jpg

Added complete new DIN-rail PoE Switches including a DIN-rail patch panel. And some 32A switches to turn off single circuit-parts for simpler fault-finding or future modifications. Also made the "Energy consumption Meter" and the mains overvoltage protection visible from the outside of the cabinet (used to be below the cover). Also changed the Power strip (installed by the electrician) to Hager DIN-rail Power outlets, which look much better and professional in my opinion.
DSC_1148-Kopie.jpg

I will improve the patch panel. it didn't work out exactly as i had planned it to. so i will switch to single patch modules including a new cover, rather than that 12x Patch panels (which unfortunaltey was meant for installatino below that cover):
hager-tn004s-patchmodul-ns0636835_01.jpg

Overall i'm quite happy with the results. some small tweaks but otherwise everything works, looks pretty good and is very handsome to use and work on :rocker:

Future plans already include a Battery storage for Energy saving and a Charging station for my wifes future electric car which she is planning to buy. Luckily we pulled some empty hoses from the cabinet to the parking spaces for that purpose. And Luckily our PV-inverter and smarthome system is already prepared for such cases so should be easy to include everything.

Also we plan on adding an awning to the terrace, which of course needs to be controlled by our smarthome system (automated shading, storm protection, rain protection, etc..). Luckily that's available too - yay :)

I binge-read your build after stumbling upon it over in sponaugle's mountainside build. All I can say is wow. It's very interesting seeing the european differences in preference/customs/regulations and how different the builds end up. I work in manufacturing and see DIN PLC panels daily, but they're not used in construction, only equipment. I agree with I can't see a reason for why its not legal here when its been proven over there, other than some antiquated regulations or job protection for suppliers.

Love the look and attention to detail. Do you have any finished pictures of the house, especially the office? Seeing the near finished was gorgeous, but curious how it looks all moved in.

I'll be following your blog on the Z. They're one of my favorite jdm cars. Definitely on the affordable wish list, if I can fond one without a ton of rust around here.

Thanks for the nice words.
If you want a good Z, i recommend getting one soon. prices are skyrocketing and most of them are in terrible shape, since they used to be cheap cars, nobody paid a lot to fix them...

I've ben planning on making a "final" post about the house, but was not really sure how much to show the public of our "private" space now.. But anyway - here we go!
First a little update. I modified some of the Power outlets with the new Feller units that have integrated USB A and -C Outputs, so you can charge your phones etc with just a cable and no additional charger required. I hate those things lying around everywhere :)
DSC_2164-rotated.jpg

The last big task was to complete the garden, watering system and planting area. We love to raise our own veggies :)
DSC_2185.jpg

This is what the garden looks from the outside:
DSC_2194.jpg

And the house from the other side, combined with the in-laws house. As you can see he decided to do the whole landscaping himself so he's still busy completeing everything:
DSC_2195.jpg

Between the two houses are the two attached storage sheds. This is ours, with a little planters table i made from an old office bench:
DSC_2191.jpg

At the in-laws house is also the shared garage door:
DSC_2196.jpg

where you enter the garage, of course:
DSC_2197.jpg

My favourite place: The workshop place with lift:
DSC_2199.jpg

And my workshop with workbenches, etc..:
DSC_2200.jpg

Next to it is the storage room. For general stuff and also car parts:
DSC_2203.jpg

The other room is the technical compartment which houses Air-to-Air heat exchanger Heater, Warm water boiler, Water pump for the Tank, De-mineralizer for the water, The whole electrical cabinet, Network system, Multiroom Audio system, some Data storage, Photovoltaic Inverter, the Security system and our Smarthome controls. I'll Install a Power backup system soon, as soon as our smarthome supplier releases it (it's in the works, i heard) and probably a charging system for my wifes future electric car and a Battery pack for solar power storage. I have a lot of ideas for upgrades and improvements here :)
DSC_2201.jpg

I won't show you all the many rooms. but this is our "guest toilet" in the Ground level. i love how it ended up, even if the picture is ******. It was inspired by a luxury hotel we were fortunate enough to visit due to some nice circumstances...
DSC_2186.jpg

A bit further and you walk into the cooking / Living area:
DSC_2169.jpg

P1260269.jpg

We even made it on our kitchen builders website reference objects category :)
Screenshot_20201001-162311.png

Here's the fireplace. It looks a bit empty in the picture, but it's meanwhile surrounded by decoration and other stuff :)
P1260257.jpg

Hidden behind the kitchen is the small walk-in storage, which also houses the oven, microwave, steamer and kitchen machinery. The advantage is you can close the door while those noisy machines are running:
DSC_2170.jpg

If you walk up the stairs you'll enter the hallroom. still some decoration needed:
DSC_2172.jpg

From there you have access to my wifes office, our guestroom, My office aka Music room:
DSC_2173.jpg

OUr bedroom aka the "jungle room":
DSC_2176.jpg

And the master bathroom:
P1260248.jpg

DSC_2180.jpg

I will probably post some updates if there are bigger changes, but more or less the house and surrounding is done now and not much work left. time to enjoy the garage and life again :)
