The historical aerial of the farmstead is pretty awesome. I love seeing those.

60' won't be wide enough for the new combine headers soon, but really, large headers are almost always on a trailer.

I thought I saw something a year or two ago about new BigBud activity, but maybe it was a bad rumor.

The problem with shop heights is that you want to get your new combine in with the bin covers open without worrying about ripping them off, and you want to be able to stand on top of it when cleaning it over your indoor wash bay. I'd like to say Im joking but I can't.

Also saw a note on tractor tunes earlier, and that can be great for the older stuff, but on newer tractors it can completely void some warranties and throw off the server/display diagnostics. It really depends on the machine and your purposes. There are all kinds of articles out there on the war between manufacturers and farmers when it comes to tunes and servicing.

sometimes you wanna pull your 780's with 60' headers on them in side by side? it's an arms race. our parents can talk about how good it was to have 70hp, duals and a cab. Now 650hp isn't enough for the 80' drills in the plains. they're looking at 1000hp. which means then 100' drills. then it's 1200hp. etc etc etc.

but if we wanna drool:
I like this shop layout.

but in the pit i'd absolutely do a platform lift.

I knew it would be Larson before I clicked the link :lol_hitti

Bigger Buds is a catchy label for a tractor. Twin N14s would be nice. :shocking:

I don't think people really understand "Dad farmer from MN snark". Between Larson and Zac the millennial my YouTube is full of it. It's a weird blend of Dad jokes, disappointment, an accent and 43% sarcasm.
May as well put a tugboat engine in those "Bigger Buds" :lol_hitti

I enjoy those guys as well. I don't think they have an accent though and totally follow along with the sarcasm. I guess that all makes sense though as I'm also a snarky Dad joking HUGE MN accent type of guy :lol_hitti

I wish I could find a few more aerial shots from more recent years but so far no luck. It's really neat seeing how things were laid out and how they've been adapted and changed over the years.

We put our 20' header on a trailer when we transport it so the 26' door that's going in the shop will be plenty wide for everything we'll have for a LONG LONG time on this farm.

One of our Leedstone customers in far Western ND had a 600/50 turned into a 900/50 to pull a VERY large air seeder. They went through the entire tractor and stripped it down to bare metal and rebuilt it with lots of new parts and all new electronics. The Welker boys did something similar to one of their buds with a bunch of nice Case IH automation. Anything can be done if you have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to do it !!!

That 26' sidewall shop is that high at that particular place because they run four huge Kenworth tub grinders and they can fold out the discharge conveyors inside the shop to work on them. The other reason I was given was "Well, why not ?!?!" when I asked them why so high lol.

I don't know if the STX325 can be tuned up but I'd think so. Our 7630 and 7810 for sure can be. I'd imagine the newer stuff is even worse yet. I've read somethings about Deere "owning" the software on the tractors and people getting all grumpy about that. It's the exact same way with the Lely Automation I work with at Leedstone. Even at the dealership level if I want to modify something it has to go though a ton of major channels and almost never ends up happening. I don't know if I think it's right or wrong that I can buy a tractor and not actually own it but it is what it is. I won't have anything that new for a while though :lol_hitti

I knew it would be Larson before I clicked the link :lol_hitti
That is a pretty nice shop for sure !!!

Bigger is always better because why not ?!?!? 38' sidewalls .... you could play football in there lol.

Not a whole heck of a lot to report here other than it was er'ma'garwsh hot on Monday. By about 10am I was already a puddle. I drank 4x2l of water and still had a headache at the end of the day. I do not do well when it's over 80F :(

LOL...at 80F, I've just barely shed my sweatshirt.....Not unusual to do 8-10 litres of liquid on nights that the hangar is still above 100F at 2 am...:spit:
Well that sounds awful. On the flip side it was 54F this morning and I was more than comfortable in shorts, T-Shirt and workboots. I bet you'd have caught hypothermia from that kind of brrrrrrrrr :lol_hitti

It doesn't get that hot in MN that often but when it does it gets petty nasty in a hurry. When it's 95F it's almost always 90% humidity as well so it feels way worse :willy_nil

jblnut, don't come to Alabama or Mississippi from middle of May to middle of October, the heat index is always high and the temp is higher, but I was raised here, so I can deal with it. Best part of any summer day here, if it rains, is sitting on a swing outside on our porch and cooling off.

I can't imagine doing that to our old grainary .... It was for cob corn and would be a bit drafty :lol_hitti

Southern states are off limits to me unless there is snow in the ground here. I suppose one would get used to those temps but I'm okay up here with my bugs and occasional day over 90F.

I agree 100%. Our hangout area growing up was in the old hay loft above the old dairy barn. It was the exact opposite of your air conditioned hang out pad lol.

New house trusses?
That'll be next year if all goes to the plan

I think those are trusses for the new shop.
Mmmmmmmhmmmmmmm !!!!! Trusses for the 2049 Shop have arrived !!! Well at least most of them .... There is to be a 16' lean on one side and they're not here yet.

It actually feels quite a bit better in the barn than it does outside. The barn is on top of a hill so even on a dead calm day there is a bit of a breeze through it plus it's shaded so they're out of the sun if they want to be. I'd much rather be in there on a HOT sunny day than outside in the sun or even under a nice shade tree !!!

Yesterday morning a neighbor cut the grass around the chicken barn to feed to his dairy cows and I decided to get out the skid loader weed whip and clean a few things up. The East side of the barn was getting pretty nasty so I tackled that first. The old silo staves we put up against the side of the chicken barn work fantastic to let the mower ride over and keep the weeds from growing tight against the building
49996366958_604b4209cc_z.jpg

One pass up against the barn and it's all cleaned up !!!
49997140592_788ca3d085_z.jpg

Then it was off to mow the ditches by the meadows. This was is a REALLY steep ditch and I don't think I'd even consider driving sideways in it if I didn't have the heavy mower down low and out front.

Today I got this nice wall mount rack hung up on a dairy farm and fished those 49 wires through it. 49 wires is 1 wires too many wires to fit nicely in my pair of 24-port patch panels :headscrat

The little people squad wanted to participate in the flying of the little camera box so I gladly let them watch along

We started looking at the new building site and the pile of shop rafters ....
49996885126_57db236dc5_b.jpg

Then scooted over here to look at all the hay Dad got cut today.
49997138962_055d6f0e46_b.jpg

As well as the spot he just about got stuck. If you see black dirt in a meadow you are very close to breaking through the top grassy layer and getting hopelessly mired in the mud :wtf:
49996366153_ea490ca5eb_b.jpg

I don't know if we'll get it totally finished but that is this weekend's project to make not there anymore. The weekend starts for me tomorrow so we shall see. I have three loads of feed to mix tomorrow, Dad is going to spray as many corn acres as he can and we have a combine auger to put in sometime soon. I may not get to take stuff apart tomorrow depending on how long that other stuff takes. I'm getting pretty excited to build a new house next year and every little step is a big step forward it seems !!!

Looks like Leo is praying . . .
now is so he can take a ride or he can fly it?
He was clapping and jumping up and down like crazy and it seems the camera caught a funny moment in time. It sure does look like he's thinking "Please please please let me try it Dad!!!"

Even your daughters have priceless faces . . .
Thanks Mike for sharing
That is actually a great picture of all of them. Leo is always jumping and wild, Lily is a ridiculously happy kid and Alyssa always times her smiles poorly in pictures :lol_hitti

Mike, I'm still watching and interested in life on your farm. Looks like it's shaping up to be a busy couple of years. Looking forward to seeing the shop and house go up. Great photos from the drone and like always of your kids. They are growing up fast, must be from all that meat and potatoes. :lol_hitti

Thanks for staying on the bandwagon and following along !! I don't know what I'm going to do when all the buildings are built and things slow down a little bit but I'm sure I'll find something to fill in the cracks.

I think I may have set a new precedent in this thread with the drone pics. You media hungry wolves are going to want more of that I'm thinking :lol_hitti

I don't really notice the kiddos getting bigger until I look at a picture of them. Then it hits like a silo falling out of the sky !! They are growing up so fast and I'm glad to be able to have each and every adventure with them along the way !!!

We really should meet up one day, I'm just down the road in St Cloud after all.
I'm game for that !! Chicken chores start at 6:40am :lol_hitti

It feels like weeks since I posted some pictures but it's only been a couple days !! I baled some NICE grass hay for a neighbor on Friday on some REALLY hilly ground.
50006215656_35145838b7_z.jpg

It was around 9-12% moisture. Wicked dry !!!
50006471602_a5923fe1be_z.jpg

After lunch I assembled the cool pad pumps in the chicken barn. It's suppose to be 90F+ for a few days this coming week and I think the cool pads will be needed.
50006209056_5443215f97_z.jpg

I'm not sure how this vent got bent UP but the lower two screws were pulled out somehow ....
50005681253_e76d33cb78_z.jpg

Tight and right again !!
50006209026_f68b46f6f1_z.jpg

Pops got tired of dealing with a flooded yard all the time because of the overflowing well so he put a bottomless plastic barrel filled with rock around the well and ran a drain tile out of it into a nearby ditch.
50006209091_0de16350aa_z.jpg

The well is nice and dry now because we've been continually filling our 2,000gal sprayer resupply tank and it must be able to **** enough water out that it doesn't overflow while we do this.
50005681278_12cc6da8b6_z.jpg

In preperation for baling all the hay we have laying down I cleaned out some oddball bales out of Dad's hay shed to bring over to my place to use in the barn.
50005681323_875ebc984f_z.jpg

Around 9am on Saturday I started raking hay and finished around lunch time. The little 5510 is quite a nice hay raking tractor !!
50006464927_84058c75f9_b.jpg

Oh look a hay field to rake !!
50006460382_c28cf9216c_b.jpg

Pops waded through the creek with the tractor and discbine and got quite a bit cut over there. This is going to be too wet to bale with our square baler as it's REALLY heavy and will probably sink away. The same guy that bales corn straw for us is going to bale it for us Tuesday or Wednesday.
50006461437_d4253c4aa0_b.jpg

Oh look !!! That guy on the hay rake tractor has a drone too !!!
50005675728_f35546c575_b.jpg

Pops baling in my meadow. This meadow is usually quite dry.
50006202071_3962bc97b5_b.jpg

"Cut your grass !!" says literally everyone .... Well this is a patch that I cut last year and didn't get to so we cut it and baled it :lol_hitti
50006466097_9d3bde560e_z.jpg

Lots of bales to pick up !!!
50005889146_1273610b0f_b.jpg

Hey that guy has a chicken barn that looks just like mine :lol_hitti
50005350903_ae1dd4ff6a_b.jpg

Bale pickup in this field is complete
50005761838_934b6167b6_b.jpg

Yikes that load looks WAY sloppier from the air than it does from the ground :headscrat
50005876401_22dbc25ea7_b.jpg

I put the long spears in the hay fork to get ready for the round bales next week. I think we'll be carrying them out three at a time on the tractor and not loading them on a trailer while in the field. It's gonna be wet !!
50005681188_85d462cf3c_z.jpg

Pops cut this hay yesterday and it's almost dry already !! The expert moisture testers had to verify it was so. They said "It's dry!!" Kind of crazy really to be dry in less than 24hrs :wtf:

Yeah it's dry and breezy down here too. Perfect haying weather, although I'd be a liar if I said I missed doing it. I'm perfectly happy to ride my motorcycle and see other people baling hay. I won't even give you grief about stacking big bales with a tractor instead of fifty or so small bales by hand on the hay rack. The best was at the end of the day when dad said we could leave the last couple of racks full and stack them in the barn in the morning when it wasn't 120 degrees inside the hayloft.

I also enjoy the drone pics !! They add quite a bit of tie to my digital media gathering to post time but I think they're quite nice. The kiddos like doing anything and everything they can outside with me so I really try hard to let them :)

If you look back in this thread it is really just on a one year loop cycle so there can't be that much new stuff. Snow melts, spring tillage happens, planting occurs, some hay is (usually) made, more hay is (hopefully) made, wheat/oats is combined, soybeans are combined, corn is combined, fall tillage happens, snow falls, life is boring for a few months, snow melts, Mike starts to post spring tillage pictures again and the cycle repeats :lol_hitti

I enjoy making hay way more with the large square baler than the small square baler that's for sure !!! I feel quite spoiled because as I'm loading bales with the tractor I was thinking "Man using the skid loader is SO much faster than this silly loader" but the meadows are usually too wet to allow the skid loaders in there without getting stuck.

Thanks for the cool drone photos, and continued updates. The kids sure are cute!
The drone stuff will continue until my Sister wants it back. Than I need to decide if I'm going to buy one or now :headscrat

I also think the kiddos are cute but I hold a certain amount of bias I guess :dunno:

hows that work with the high humidity?
Low pressure jet pump dribbles water over the evap cells and it falls into a catch basin below and gets recycled. It's quite simple. There is a little over 500cfm per square foot of cool pad so it does pretty well in high humidity. That's a lot of air moving through the cells !! I have it setup so the pump runs for 80 seconds and then is off for 180 seconds to let it dry down a bit.

And disc blade food, building tear downs, boring off-the-farm work stuff, and i guess a lot more. If I never post another picture of a flat tire I'll be quite happy :bounce:

just in time for father's day
I think I'm gonna buy a drone of my own. Something portable and lightweight that deploys faster than this one. No idea which one but I'm going to start shopping I think.

I've been bringing my new laptop to work the last few days and leaving it at the job site hooked up to the data rack we are currently installing doing some testing and whatnot overnight so I don't have it to post the stuff se did this week so far. It's mostly been HOT but we got a bunch of meadow baled and some more building stuffs torn down. Pops got a few steer pens cleaned out today in the heat. Tomorrow it is suppose to rain and I sure hope it does. It's been weeks since we've had any noticeable precipitation and the crops are getting quite stressed :(
