Any California Woodworkers here ?

Hey guys,
Any of you in California or west coast and know of any place to buy small amounts of Redwood ?? I need a couple of 2x4x4ft and a couple of 2x6x4ft pieces of nice redwood to do some repairs to an old picnic table. Has sentimental value or I would not be messing with it. Anyway I have been searching on line and in my area and it appears that the only places selling Redwood either want you to buy a truck load or they are out west and dont ship.

Anyone know of a place that will sell small quantities and maybe ship them ? Price is not all that important.

There are plenty of places that specialize in Redwood. Clear Heart and straight grain is available at most good yards. I build outdoor furniture from Redwood I get from a local yard...expensive but beautiful...

Not sure who would ship...but maybe research some yards up in Fort Bragg, Crescent City or Eureka area...where most is harvested.

What is the name of the yard you use ?

I have probably sent out 30 e-mails over the last few weeks and either there is a massive minimum order or they do not ship. Thats why I was hoping maybe somebody had first hand experience of a place that will do a small order and maybe ship it.

Shipping from the left coast may be prohibitively expensive for such a small quantity. You might try lumber yards in the midwest to cut down on the distance. These two in the Dallas area popped up when I searched.

Too bad you're not closer. I have a lot of salvaged 2x6 redwood decking that you could pick through.

The dimensional lumber you mentioned is widely available here; Home Depot and Lowe's carry it, but not best quality. Here's a link to a redwood yard;

I think the biggest obstacle won't be finding it, it will be finding a place to ship a few sticks across the country.

Best bet would be to find a member who can get it locally and ship it to the op. I’m sure someone will step up. Bill is a good member, he’s gone out of his way to help me with some auto wiring. If I had a local place I would ship him some.

My local Home Depot here in western Nebraska carries a pretty good supply of redwood. I will see what they have next time I’m in the area, it’s 20 miles away so will be a few days before I will be down that way. I believe ups will ship the sizes you require. If you cannot find a source, I will be happy to purchase and ship if good quality dry redwood is available.

I would think home depot would have some. Ganahl lumber...or Rockler probably has it at a price.
