High flowing hose reel?

I've got a couple of fancy industrial 3/4" water hoses around my shop. I power them with an irrigation pump for car washing and such, my main water supply is little more than a dribble.

Obviously these big hoses can be a little hard to work with. I want a nice big industrial hose reel, and I've found several for sale, except they all share one problem: Their hose connection is only 5/8". I don't want to neck down my pump that far and that kind of negates the use of a 3/4" hose in the first place...

So, of course there's only one sensible answer - build one! Seems real simple...just some bearings, a handle, and something to wrap the hose around. My problem is the swivel fitting that allows the reel to spin without twisting up the hose. Where can I find such a thing, in at least 3/4" diameter? I even went to the farm store where they have a bunch of really heavy duty hose reels for big long hoses but still only a 5/8" input...

I think the grass fire hoses on the front of fire field trucks have a 3/4 hose on them. Maybe your local fire department has an old reel you can have or buy cheap.

Hmmm...definately worth a look although the odds seem kinda slim that I'd actually find one for a decent price.

Anybody know of any kind of swivel fitting I might be able to use? Maybe something meant for some kind of hydraulics?

I would speak to a co called t & s brass. very high quality, us designed and built.
They do really nice hose reels and also a range of 3/4" fittings and taps for commercial use.
They arn't the cheapest but they are cracking units.

That one 5/8" fitting isn't going to cost very much as far as flow goes. You'll lose more with 90 degree direction change than you will due to the size. (My opinion, there's probably a law of physics out there somewhere!)

In fact, lots of fire hose is coupled with a smaller fitting than the hose diameter. For example, we carry 1.75" hose that's coupled at 1.5" and 3" hose that's coupled with 2.5" couplings.

I like the idea of the booster hose!

Oh, and look for reels made by Hannay. They are kind of the "industry standard" when it comes to hose reels.

The pressure drop through a short section of 5/8" will be a lot less than that of a 5/8" hose. I say try a manufactured one, if it doesn't satisfy you then return it and resume as planned.

I will have to check, But I may have a spare hose reel with 3/4
