I guess my other post got lost
I'm in the planning phase of a 30X40 workshop. I do some wood working, metal working and automotive. Still working out the electrical and planning on a large sink somewhere close to the man door.

Remember the man in the movie saying "We are going to need a bigger boat"?

Look for a bigger checkbook.

Around here the Mueller guys will do drawings and materials lists for various sizes and options. It’s a good way to see what you can afford, and sometimes a change in layout can save big $$$.

When you say metal building do you mean tube steel, cold formed or red iron. All have different foundation requirements which will affect you budget and possibly door locations.

Red iron.
Talked to a contractor today 5inch slab with footers (some people call them beams) 1/2 and 5/8 rebar.
Very good point about welding near the door. Gonna have a few 220 outlets

Think about designing in a loft. Mine is 30x40x12. I do similar stuff and it is full.

Have you ever considered a hybrid building, like Perka? I'm getting ready to build a 40x40 model 4000.
I had to google Perka and see the difference but I don't see the advantage. What is the advantage, since I am also planning on build?

City code limited me to 1200 sqft for my detached garage. So I did a 40x30 with 18" to the rafters. In a few years I'll have the funds to expand the interior to a large loft probably giving me an additional 600sqft for the man cave/hangout stuff I'd like to do.

6/12 pitch. 12 foot walls. I put the loft at 9 feet. I could use another 2 feet upstairs, but its useable. It's about 22 feet high overall. The shed area on the side is 12 wide. It and the driveway have been poured now

Did a 30 x 40 x 12 Mueller. This is one of their standard buildings. The basic design has one 10' x 10' rollup door. I added a 36" entry door and a second 8' x 8' rollup door. I have the 10' door on the west side 30" and the 8' on the south side 40'. In the summer being able to open both doors and get some ventilation is great. I used Mueller's optional insulation and it really helps keep the building cooler. I had the slab done at 6" thickness for a 2 post lift.
Between a couple of friends and my wife who was a trooper thru the build I got is up in about 3 months of evenings and weekends.

The insulation was a PITA but worth it.

Building from Mueller was about $12K 5 years ago, the concrete included 2 other slabs so if I were to break it out it was about $16K.

Still have to get electric finished, got a freebie 3 tom heat pump for cooling and heat. Yet to install.

I have my building split up into general areas, storage with 2 large home made shelves that are 8' tall (I have some rolling stairs), place to keep the lawn equipment, metal working area with a lathe and vertical mill. General work area where I can park a car when not in use. A place where I can restore my VW Type 3. I have as much stuff on wheels as I can, so I'm not locked into keeping stuff in one place.

I'm near Jarrell, TX.
