I use a product called cornerstone to kill vegetation it is absorbed through the leaves by spraying. It will take out anything that it is sprayed on but will not kill trees. It cant be absorbed through the trunk or stalk only leaves. I spray poison ivy that is growing on the trees and my fences. If there is something I dont want to kill I put a bucket over it and spray around it.
I spray my garden in the spring wait a week and till it. This may help you, maybe not.

It doesn't look like anyone local sells that product. I am not overly concerned about weeding the rain garden, I would have to pull the plants anyways, since they will be in my way.

Scooter, sorry to hear that.

I should have talked with you guys a week ago, but at this point I am going to just tear out the plants and put int he new approved ones.

Been at the freaking office all day, no AC and it is like an oven. I have been requested to "Describe what I do and have done for the company" by dead old Dad. Very frustrating, he thinks I am unhappy with the work, but in reality I am unhappy about the heat, about his memory issues, about the interactions with the stepmother. :(

uuuggggg.

I have had to do this before. Most times it actually surprised my supervisor how much I did.

Look at your "contract", make sure you are doing everything they "think" you should be doing.

Note: make sure you note who you worked for: trust, company, family, yourself etc

Start simply. Break each of these down the same way. Go through one at a time. Don't get fancy, use a bound paper binder/tablet (spiral not just a legal pad). Use at least as page per each task (leave space to add to each later when you think of more information). Transcribe to electronic, but keep the paper copy. It ***** if you have done a ton of entry and the spreadsheet get fucked up. Paper lasts. Maybe make a template and print it off? so you look at each task the exact same way?

Look around the room, list what you can see that you do.

Go through your "rolodex" and list how many contacts and how you work with each them (do not list them, no use helping the next guy).

Go through the files and do the same with each of the things you already listed (from looking around the room). Start with current projects and work backwards.

Go through you texts and phone history.

List everyday stuff: phone, cell phone, trash, water, electric, heat, cooling, rent, fuel (each type), supplies (office or shop), purchasing, etc that you take care of.

Look at the equipment you have. Look at each separately: Office, shop and field equipment. What is it used for and has been used for. Were you involved with buying it (for the company)? Did you do the research to pick which piece of equipment? list how, who and why that piece was bought. list maintenance on the equipment. List projects it was and is used on.

Note the days and time of day you work, business hour and after hours. Note mileage you travel. List locations, tower, office, shop, client location. Phone time, this adds up fast.

With all these things, note how much money you made for the company, how much you saved the company, how much you could make the company if you had more projects etc. List the projects and clients you have brought to the company or trust etc.

List what equipment you own that you let the company use. List insurance, mileage, fuel you payed for. Note things like: "couldn't use excavator because it was at the island, had to rent one". **** like that.

I know this is a lot of things. Once you have an outline to use, it actual goes pretty fast.

Hint, if you must play the job justification game, send a daily email to stepmom and dad with details of what you did that day (time arrived, tasks, time left). Be thorough, more is better. Blind copy a third party (company lawyer?) and keep your own copy. I have had to do this. Trust me it does not take long before everyone realizes you do a lot more than they are whining about.

Get your stuff separate from trust and company stuff. Make sure you have a copy of anything want to have a copy of (in case you leave suddenly).

Good luck.

That is what I used to do and then we went with a simplified version, just do what needs to be done and get paid a flat fee to do it. It was taking way too much effort to try and keep track of things and I was getting shortchanged in the end. So not interested in any of that.

oh, sorry. Last job I donated way too much time. It *****.

Still, they asked for a listing of what you do. Maybe do a thorough "day" and ask if they want more?

Is your dad still friends with the employee? Does your family read garage journal?

I don’t post anything that I wouldn’t say, they might understand my frustrations if they read my mess. Employee is still “friends”, but Dad likes to rent people, if that even makes sense. It is a weird dynamic, my grandfather was the same way, always had to pay you, nothing ever got done without being paid, pretty sure he wanted to make sure that he never owed anyone a favor.

I am over at the SG now, going to try and load up the water and supplies onto Bev, this way I can fill up the water tank at the house in the morning. Also going to hack the ends of those springs and try and load up Clark.

Set the water tank on Bev, still need to load up supplies and strap it down.

Got the ends of the springs cut, ramps move pretty well now, Clark seems to sit pretty well. The steering is so powerful that it is fought to stay straight, I had to back and fill a bit, but I think it will do, could probably move Clark back a bit, but I don’t think I will be able to do that with the Mitsu, so might as well see if there is going to be anything funny with it loaded tongue heavy.

Looking good!

Don't forget the hose hand sprayer. A 5gal bucket might be good too.

Are you gravity feeding the water or do you have a pump of some kind? Do you have power at the tower (better pack an extension cord).

I have water my share of landscaping.

New suburban looks nice. I recall reading about a member up in Canada treating the underside of his Vanagon with some sort of wax product to keep the rust from eating it alive - any plans to prevent rust on your new acquisition? I can dig up the reference if you like.

As others have said I think it's key for your sanity that you avoid adding new projects and either finish or sell off a bunch of the ones you have. I tend to have a similar problem where I buy a bunch of stuff for projects or half-done projects and then they stagnate. Since I'm tight on funds I tend to look for "deals" when I buy stuff, but I'm also tight on free time and more and more I've come to realize that the "deals" I buy just tie up cash and never get me anywhere. To combat this I've started to analyze whether or not I can put something to use right away before buying, or if it's going to sit and clutter up my shop for 3 years before I can ever use it. For example I keep seeing these nice industrial 80 gallon compressors at auction for $300-500. I want one so I can sandblast effectively, but I don't have enough amps running to the shop to run one, nor a 3 phase converter, so I've thus far avoided buying one. That money and time is better saved up for a concrete slab, garage doors, and running new wiring...

Not sure quite where I'm going with that, but it makes me think of Red Green saying "I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together" :bounce:

The family dynamic mixed with your company definitely sounds difficult. It sounds like you're getting some solid advice from several members on here.

S&A, I have a small pump and a generator, should work well, the bucket is not a bad idea at all.

Press, I have already purchased an undercoating, if this truck gets used for winter, it will definitely get coated. Mine is an oil based formula, I bought a pressure sprayer setup that will allow me to put the oil in all kinds of nooks and crannies.

Cool. I have had to hand water way too many plants, bucket helps a lot. A pitcher or smaller bucket can help too, dip and water each plant and not wash it out when you water the first time.

You can also use the bucket for when you are weeding.

FYI I dislike yard work, it's one reason I sold the house on a 3rd acre and got a townhouse.

I find that books are hard to read when they get all covered in oil.

Autocorrect got me.

Nooks, but you knew that. ;)

Sorry I couldn’t help it.

That new burb had to come from down south. That or it was garage kept and never driven in the winter. No way a New York truck could be that clean.

You climb into big trucks all the time. Why even bother with running boards? Just rip them off imo.

I like the factory running boards, the truck came from Idaho originally, only been in NY for a couple years and I don’t think it was driven in the winter.

Ignore pictures -- had the wrong tab open.

Hard to cover them in oil if they're microfiche

Strouty here's my unsolicited $0.02, that is a really nice 'Burb! KEEP IT! Don't get to caught up in that engine, I would go on-line and find a nice "Short" or "Long block" and swap it in! 2 or 4 Grand one weekend and your driving a reliable and Damn Good looking ride even with the gold that looked grey in the earlier pic's. As for the family thing I think you need to call a family meeting and call all the problems out in front of everyone and deal with the splatter when the ***** matter hits the rotary impeller, witnesses to cover you and shame the problems into line. "NO PRISONERS". It seems that you should wear a " red Weider shirt" [or Everlast] with straps on the top to make your point [punching bag] You've put up with enough with sorely lacking rewards. It seems that nothing gets fixed in my life until I go completely "Ape $#!+" on my problem people. And I am so happy I could just $#!+ [ think of the line from "Arlo Guthries, Alice's Restaurant I wanna Kill Kill Kill] So a careful evaluation of this advise may be in order prior to deployment. Oh I like that 'Burb a lot enough that I leased one back then for the unGodly amount of money I shouldn't have spent. But I did live through it and I didn't get that beautiful 454 either! Keep It! Yeah, people are not always helpful, for us or themselves.

Paperwork = ick. Will you at least have office AC?

Is your location getting any of the early season storm the news keeps talking about?

Hang in there. Every bit of paperwork you do is one more thing to check off the to-do list. Remember, finishing something, anything, is the goal.

People who use filters on for sale posts piss me off. I am interested in this tractor, but no way I am driving 200 miles when I can't tell anything about it.

No AC in the office, it is like an oven, probably wait until later evening.

Been helping my Brother today, he was having email issues on multiple devices. It is always fun dealing with antique cell phones.

AC, bummer. Make the company buy you AC.

I personally dislike technology, so I had a prepaid flip phone for years. Finally, it just stopped talking to the cell networks. I paid $9 for a new phone. Works great. I only use it for phone/text and once in a while to find the next train time.

Tell your brother to upgrade.

Spent the afternoon with my Brother, we brought Bev and Perk (with Clark) over to the tower, unloaded Clark and did some assessments on the tower removal. Worked out very well, now all we have to do is pull things together and schedule things.

Perk didn’t run out of power, so tomorrow I may try and take the Mitsu over to the tower instead of roasting in the office. Looks like the island project will be delayed until Thursday now (not my choice).
