Snap on T-12827 wrench. This is a odd wrench, its made from a Blue Point RX-32. Not unusual for a special to be made from a regular Blue Point wrench, but on this tool they added the Snap on logo. Looks like Snap on added a 3/8 drive extension. Has a 1945 code. Probably a military application. has one inch opening.

OTG & snapmom--Thanks for your insights. The consensus on the GS thread is that SO was not too consistent with the style of the 'G' in '45 and that the decoder lists only one of the styles.

It was modified at the factory. You see this often on the specials. looks like they attached a extension on the end of the wrench, different diameter

I brought home this pair of 1/2” ratchets today. A 71-a and a 71-n with a date code that looks like 39 or 40.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I wonder if anybody's got any info on this old bad boy. I figure it's one of those things my grandfather dropped in his pocket while teaching electronics in the Navy or civil service back in the 50s-60s. (I also found his 3/8 drive FV71M and it still works great after a few drops of oil).

Some vintage Snap-On that I have found here in Sweden.

The 71N has a 1947 date stamp, and a previous user has modified the grip.

The 1/4" ratchet and yellow handled driver has E stamps, and the expected simple finish.

The large socket thing is some sort of speciality tool for old engines.

The "large socket thing" is a torque adapter. It allows you to use a torque wrench lined up on the fastener when there is an obstruction blocking in-line access. Mostly used to torque head bolts/nuts on overhead valve engines when they have been assembled and test-run.

Made a trade with catfishdan for his 2 SO ratchets. Here they are all cleaned up and ready to go.

I really like that G dated ratchet. My SV-71A is undated as well. My 71-N has an E date.

I think my original post of this box is gone. I filled the rust pits and repainted it grey, threw in a midget sticker for good measure.

Finally found an orphan tool for the empty 3/4-inch drive box I found last year. At this pace I'll have it filled by the time I am 75 years old.

Can anyone identify this bottom box? It’s sitting underneath a Snap On box, so I took a look through some 60’s and 70’s catalogs, but couldn’t find anything like it.cbed99c72eaa3a196bb6088faba0d102.jpg

Ohhh. Thats a nice one.
Thanks, Otg. I'm actually a little befuddled by it, to be honest. I don't have any Snappy 3/4-inch drive stuff, so it's the first one I have ever really seen and studied.

First thing I noticed was that the hinge on the L-19 looks and works like the hinge on the NS-19 1/2-inch drive hinge handle I have, and that it also has the drive stud twisted 45*. The NS-19 has the 1935 (2,005,202) and 1936 (2,026,561) patents on it and a 1942 date code. This L-19 also looks wartime to me, but I can't find a date code on it. And, unlike the NS-19, I can't seem to find it in the 3/4-inch drive section of any catalog in the late 30's or early 40's. Unless I am just totally missing it somehow, the catalogs seem to only be showing the type of 3/4-inch drive hinge handle that attaches to the L-72H bar (like the 3/4-inch drive ratchet head does), which doesn't pivot inside a fork like this.

Did they make both styles and never bothered showing this style in the catalogs? Or what?

I really like the versatility of it. Can be be used as a breaker bar or a pin handle. Very nice tool. I have couple. No date codes.

Thanks, guys. It's just odd that it's essentially the same design as the standard, which is included in the cats, there are other tools not in the cats that aren't necessarily military, just special, (edit: and, plenty of military tools are date coded), all of which gives me false logic pause, but, I can live with "probably military", which isn't as specific and declarative as Air Forces without something to prove that.

But yeah, nice versatile tool for serious spinning or offset work.

Looks like this one in the 71 catalog, but hard to say exact year. May be able to tell from the serial number or patent dates.

Hi all,
This is my first post. I am trying to gauge value if any on this snap on (mostly) and blue point collection. I see the date code stamp on most of the snap on tools is 1951. The tool box is also interesting, a cantilever type (branded Duplex Sherman NY). Appreciate any info. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like a nice collection! Tough to say value without pics, but that time period is desirable.

I paid $.27 for the F-11-E extension I found in the St. Vincent's scrap metal bin today. 1944?

IMG_4357.jpg IMG_4353.jpg

I am a little confused, because I thought the 11 referred to inches, but maybe they aren't talking overall length. (?)

The R1416 "right angle wrench" was found last week and reading on AA suggests it is from between 1926-'29; yet they also say that style was not introduced until 1928. Does the "PAT APL'D FOR" suggest that it is on the early end?

It is a little hard to get a good photo, but it also says >BLUE POINTS-CHICAGO<

IMG_4354.jpg

The other one I found was this "Dwarf Boxocket" that does not have a date stamp. AA says they appeared in the '28 catalog.

Here is a little snap on junior handikit from the 30s.
Made by Duplex in Sherman, NY. One of the stranger stories in toolboxland, Duplex made these externally cantilevered gems for themselves and many others (Goode, Snap-on, Old Forge, etc), but not Plomb Tool Co, for many years, until a fire burned down the factory in 1958. That's when Pendleton bought them out and moved the operations to Ft Smith, Arkansas.

Curious how you're dating it to the 30's, though? They offered them from 1932 to 1946. According to the catalogs they were finished in "battleship grey duco enamel" from 1932 to 1936. From 1937 to 1946 the finish was listed as just "grey enamel", although I have my doubts it was actually a different color. I think they just cut back on the catalog wordsmithing. These do show up in all sizes (Junior, Senior, and Master) in OD green during WWII. Is that just the light, patina, overspray, or do I detect some OD green on that box? If "grey", it could be prewar 40's or 1946, too. Again, unless you know a way of dating them that I don't. If so, please share.

I am jealous of yours. I have one. Also a Junior. Somebody spraybombed it red. It's on my restore back to "grey" list, but I might cheat and make it a WWII OD green box. If I go through the trouble of stripping the red without a blaster, I may as well make it OD green. A friend has a Master he has offered me. But it would be a killer to ship.

I paid $.27 for the F-11-E extension I found in the St. Vincent's scrap metal bin today. 1944? ... [ ]... I am a little confused, because I thought the 11 referred to inches, but maybe they aren't talking overall length. (?)
Roughly speaking. Only the F-6 and -8 were spot on OAL. The F-1 is actually 1-1/2" OAL and the F-9 is actually 8" OAL. The chief of merchandising and the lead tool & die guy thought that one up as a gag. ('We'll have those collectors scratching their dang heads 70 years from now, won't we? Hardy har har...')

The specifications on your 1944 F-11 extension is 12” in the 1942 and 1945 catalogs.

The color on this one matches my late 30s toolchest, so I deduced the age from that. The actual shades of grey seemed to change often!
