Tekton peeling chrome and blemishes

Recently took delivery of a set of 1/2" drive metric chrome Tekton sockets. Tekton set SKT252.

I have to say I'm not super impressed. I've used Tekton tools before. Read tons of good things about them. Have a few random wrenches with beautiful chrome.

This set doesnt fall in that category. All the sockets have dents/peening on the outside. Not a super big deal. I'm a user not a polisher. I could over look that problem. Especially at the price point I paid.

My big issue over half of the deep well sockets have peeling chrome and several of the shallow sockets as well. So bad that I had to go find tweezers to pull the chrome slivers out of my fingers after checking the set out.

It's a shame really. It's a great bargain for what you are getting that is if Tekton could manage to ship tools without peeling chrome.

Needless to say I'm disappointed. I'm not sure what I expected for the price point but after reading so many good reviews I decided to take a chance. I'm waiting for a return label from the seller and these are going back.

Thats a bummer. I have a craftsman set with similar symptoms. I warrantied one recently and the lady told me it wasn't broken. I had to kindly explain to her that the defect is the finish quality and that the 6-8 other sets I have don't exhibit this issue.

Good luck in your search.

I have Tekton ratchets and they turn bolts as well as any other ratchet I've used.

Send the sockets back. They'll replace them. I had a stubby 1/4" drive that arrived much like you describe. I had a new one in my hand two days later, just by contacting Dave.R here on the site.

That sounds bad. Any pictures of these defects?

I have the same set but didn't look them over too closely for defects. May have to take another look now.

I got a Tekton ratchet with flaking chrome at the indexing teeth, they solved the problem quickly.

These problems happen with any brand, in my experience, Tekton does a good job backing up the product. I had worse customer service experiences with Gearwrench and Sunex.

Where did you get them from? Are you sure about the part#?

Tekton came out with all new socket sets a little over a year ago. is your set old stock?

I would email customer service at Tekton.com with photos of the issues and see what they say.

I bought then from a seller on ebay and they have already sent a return label

They're warranty is pretty straightforward. It implies they will warranty even if bought as old stock through a reseller. I'd send an email. I think they'll take care of you.

My 1/2" drive metric standards are Tekton. No complaints here.

Agreed. Maybe not Nepros? (I’m not likely to ever find out.)

I got some brand new Stahlwille ring spanners with miserable chrome and off-centre broaches. And Stahlwille is considered one of the best makers by people who should know.

I to have has snap on wrenches and sockets peel. On Sk wrench, and a metric s$&t ton of Williams super combos, they are the worst and it’s a shame as they are one of my favorite patterns.
