Anyone following my last thread (https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458826) knows that I stumbled upon an enormous Napa Fleet floor jack on FB marketplace last week.

When I got it home I decided to tear it down to get rid of the rust and lubricate all the moving parts. It turned into a much bigger project that I had originally planned, but it's done now and it works really well. Someone has had it apart before judging by the apprentice marks on the hydraulic unit. There were also a couple of joints that had been knicked hard or where the axles or bolt had been mushroomed/damaged a bit. It took quite a bit of time to get that all corrected. Also had to fix a couple stripped screws. Lastly, when I put it all back together I discovered that the jack actually has a "rapid pump" feature that wasn't working when I first picked it up. I'm not sure if my cleaning the pistons fixed a leak, or if the previous owner had just over-filled it.

Here's some photos.

Very nice cleanup!

I’m not sure where your “leak” was previously located. However, I believe both the power and speed pumps on the jack have a gland nut which can be tightened up, compressing the interior pump packing, and thus, “fixing leaks”.

I think they just overfilled it and it was coming out the breather. I didn't see any other leaks anywhere.

No leaks is great.

You know, I have never figured out why some jacks have breather / vents while others have a rubber plug or screw. It seems that being able to equalize the air pressure in the reservoir would be a good thing, but maybe it just doesn’t make that much of a difference in a manual Jack.
