I'm with the sawzall just make it work crowd. 15 mins on craigslist or Walmart, some guesstimating, and you're on your way.

One thing I really hated living back east was the heat and humidity. Even when I was a broke college student I managed to find a cheap non-working a/c unit, bought it off an old geezer who's house we were painting. A few squirts of WD40 and some spinning of the fan, and bingo, working ac!

Threw it in my bedroom window at my fraternity, cardboard cut to size for a custom fit. Fired it up, all of a sudden I'm the most popular guy in the house.

Only rule, if you want in, you bring beer or weed, Lol.

That first night of sleeping with the ac, I'm loving the freezing cold, its actually a little too cold. I reach up to turn it down and was thinking I could reach it without getting out of bed.

Just touch it and wham! Its sailing out my 2nd floor window, loud crash on the parking lot below, rush of warm air into my room. WTF! I look out the window, its in pieces, I groan and go back to bed in the swelter, completely depressed. My $20 ac unit destroyed the first night I had it.

Next morning for the hell of it, before work, I picked it up, it actually didn't look too bad. Some duct tape, put the knobs back on, plug it in, IT IS ALIVE!

Ha ha, oh my god you never saw a happier college kid knucklehead in your life.

More ac, less burbs, Lol. Just kidding man, do what makes ya happy, lifes too short otherwise. But ac, seriously.

My 2¢ ....

Remove the window pane,
Slap up a piece of plywood,
Back it with a piece of foam panel insulation,
Drill hole for vent hose,
Plug in portable A/C,
Done.

Nothing that can’t be easily reversed without damage when the ol’ man blows a gasket.
In the meantime, you get to get some work done without melting.
It doesn’t have to look pretty, it just has to work and keep the bugs out.

Kev,

You forgot that I also have Perk and the AC works too. ;) As for the office layout and syncing things, that hasn't been that long or bad. I spent a lot of time trying to find file cabinets that worked due to the wall design in the office, but it has been functional for a while, just not redone with nice countertops and flooring.

All this will go away when either A: I get the office moved into the house or B: winter arrives. Place your bets now........

I had help today, it made things way more productive, might even have help for a couple more days this week and some next week too.

As I suspected, actually even better than I thought, it took 15 minutes to finish putting the blade on the Mitsu with two people. Makes me happy and sad all at the same time.

We went and got Bev from the tower site (watered the plants while there), brought Bev back to the SG so we could move the office trailer/wood shop on wheels. In order to do that, we had to move the F700 crew cab, took a bit of messing with it, but drove it out of the way without too much effort. Then we moved the 5ton 6x6 with the moving van trailer out, so now everything is out of the back area that needs to be. I also have easy access to a flat bed that I sold, yes I said sold, they want to pick that up later this week.

Right now I am probably headed to the Hill to fill up the water tank on the back of Bev, then I will head home to get some rest, my back is sore, but since I am listening to it, I don’t think I have overdone it yet. ;)

Where's the popcorn? This is crazy. dude, it's a shop. Cut a hole in it and put in a 150 dollar AC. If that won't work, take out the window and store it safely and cut some plywood. This is not hard. I'd have AC in there in a new york minute if i was you.

Back to your regularly scheduled soap opera...

It isn’t the shop, it is the office.

Break room AC with office doors open made it usable. Windows are just about 20” opening, but I seriously think if I remove the screws holding them in, they may not hold the windows in later, everything seems weathered and brittle. I may be able to cut an area out and vent a portable unit out the soffit for now, but I do think I can bear it with the AC the way it is. All I have to do is pack up things and get them ready for the temporary space.

Inside the break room.

Outside the break room, yet still inside ;)

If you leave either of these windows open, water gets in, so I would have to seal things up pretty well.

This is what the walls look like, so I may be able to hack into the space and vent out to the soffit.

I might be mistaken, but is that an aircon unit in the office/woodshop trailer?

Drag it to The Hill, plug it in and problem solved? Would even have a woodshop on hand to help frame out a place for a new aircon in the upstairs office...

I'm guessing there will be some impediment to allowing this to happen.:eyecrazy:

We all know the impediment is me, I take the blame for everything that goes wrong anyways.

It isn’t about not being able to buy an air conditioner, it is about venting it properly, or close to properly.

Dude! That aluminum office side chair is classic! It's worth some money. Very trendy collectible, mid-century tanker look. Looks in good shape too (has the arm plastic covers intact).

Easy $200-500 depending on condition and maker. And where you are in the country trying to sell it...

Steel chairs are worth money too.

In aluminum, I have two arm chairs, six dining chairs and two reproduction bar stools. All from different vintage manufactures. No EMECO though (I'm too poor for that). Love the mid-century tanker look

If you turn it over, it should have a manufacture date stamped somewhere along the seat rim, usually front or back rim. Also may have a tag or stencil on the seat bottom.

Anyway, don't let it get scrapped or trashed...

Strouty, I have no idea what value you put on your time, particularly in terms of yours and your dad's businesses, but I suspect you need to review and up the rate.
For many of us we struggle to understand why you don't just farm the aircon out to a professional installer (assuming this would not cause a blowup with your dad) and move on with more productive use of time while pondering things in air-conditioned comfort.

Even in my back water part of downunder, it would be entirely possible to have a mini-split installed next day, or by the end of the week at worst for less than $500 + the cost of the unit. Would seem far cheaper than spending even half a day not being productive because of oppressive heat and humidity, or lugging office stuff up and down the stairs to a temporary office in the house. Better value even than dragging the mobile office over from the SG.

Make it someone else's problem and focus on other money making or fun jobs.

Mini rant over - I think I've had too much coffee..:willy_nil

If we weren’t about to tear apart the office, I would have someone do it, but right now it will be an after the office gets done type of situation, or at least a while office is being redone. And yes, Dad would throw a fit if I hired someone to do it right now. :(

Strouty I guarantee this will if you aren’t interested in actually fixing the problem. Go somewhere and buy a 20 inch high velocity floor fan. Around here I’d get this one from Rural King.

https://www.ruralking.com/20-inch-high-velocity-floor-fan-hv20rk

Turn the break room ac up high take the fan put it near the door that goes to the office and point it at the office and turn it on. It’ll move more cool air into your workspace.

Or just make whatever you do look old and tell your dad it's been there for years! You could take the AC unit from the mobile office and stick it in the breakroom too and just crank it!

Sorry to change the subject, I really thought the July suburban quota had been met, obviously I was wrong. At least this one will be my daily driver everyone wants me to have so badly (including me :) ). Unfortunately it is the tan on tan that I don't like, but the AC works, it looks to be close to rust free and it is a diesel, this time it is a 2500 2x4, I haven't owned one of those yet, so it is OK, right? ;)

Strouty, I may be missing something here. If either of those windows can be removed, you can fit this Frigidaire FFRS1022R1 10000 BTU 115-volt Slider/Casement Room Full-Function Remote Control Window Air Conditioner with a tight-fitting piece of plywood. Amazon has them for around $550. Window height- 21.5 inch minimum / 40 inch maximum. Minimum window width- 15.5 inch.

Might be available from a nearby store as well. Seems like something you can take with you if everything goes south.

The one Bob posted would fit for sure, at this point I may just deal with leaving the doors open and get a fan to push the cool air in further from the break room, seems like the simplest solution.

It has so many dents, I was thinking Magoo.

I was actually searching for Honda elements, then something happened and my fingers slipped and typed in diesel suburban, not sure what was going on. ;)

That was what I was thinking too, except this was an Apple issue. ;)

I am a bit excited about the fact that it is a 2500 2x4, not sure why, but I just am. I will be curious to see what kind of mileage it gets compared to a 4x4. Should be a great three season truck, it may also be short lives and be sold, for now I have to deal with the logistics of picking it up, it is a 6 hour ride each way. I don’t want to use Dad’s trailer because you have to remove the ramps to haul a suburban, my brother has a bigger trailer that tilts, so no ramps. I will say, I am going to have to fix my boost issue so I don’t have all the black smoke and no power like last trip. I will start messing with that tomorrow. Looks like this is going to be another early Sunday run.

On another note, I bit the bullet and ordered the stainless steel trim for Perk’s hood, it should be here tomorrow, the aluminum grill showed up last week and it looks pretty nice.

In fact saying all this, I could even take Perk, that would give me AC and some good seat time. Of course my shoulder would probably be junk Monday from all the shifting, scratch that, no Perk.

Forgot to post the F700 crew cab pic of the day.

Funny I have one torn apart right now. Plus it’s an awd stick shift.

I like that last plan. And is it time to weed the Burban herd? Sounds like the Tan Burb is going to save the day. I hope you can keep ticking items off the to-do list.

I'm pretty sure Strouty is just trolling us. My guess is that he's running a highly lucrative global 'Burb' dismantling/recycling business where every vehicle comes in and is stripped down over a couple of days to component parts, catalogued and listed for sale - and any rusty or junk parts/panels/frames are immediately scrapped at a profit.

I so hope we're being trolled...
