Was very surprised to see a half-page Harbor Freight ad in yesterday's Wall Street Journal. Wow, either Harbor Freight is really looking to capture a new demographic, or ad space in the WSJ is really cheap (or probably a combination of both . . .)

Advertising to investors, maybe? Certainly they weren't advertising tools?!?

Maybe things have gotten so bad on Wall Street that the investors are fixing their own cars?

It was their normal add with a dozen or so sale items, 20% off coupon, etc. Pretty much the same ad the run in Car & Driver and other enthusiast's mags, just bigger.

I'm a WSJ subscriber and work on my own cars and motorcycles, but I'd certainly think I'm in the minority. I also work for a large bank, and I can count on one hand the number of people I know within my organization that do the same.

They've put their ad in the WSJ at least once before, a couple of months ago. But it's not routine. They've also put their ad in Forbes magazine. It seems like they decided to greatly step up their print advertising and stop emailing people 20% off coupons every week.
