DIY Split unit line set question

I'm going to order the Mr. Cool 24K gen 3 DIY kit. The line set is 25' and I really only need about 16'. I've watched lots of the install videos and it looks like everyone just leaves the excess line rolled up behind the compressor unit outside. Is it OK to do that? I was thinking the bottom of the coils would hold oil and maybe cause a problem. Yes? No?

Thanks

That's the way it's designed to be set up, photo of my 36k unit attached. If the lines hold oil, no idea. d7299fbfebdd578476ef3fe3715b0fff.jpg

Thanks. I understand that's how they want it done, but I'm wondering if this could cause any problems. I've asked a couple friends here who are commercial HVAC company owners and will post up what they say as well.

The newest Gen 3 don't have the line attached to the head. I believe they are 15 and 25 ..

Where did you get that impression? The instructions should state the minimum and maximum line-set lengths.

The DIY series come with 16' or 25' precharged line sets. Sure, you can make your own or even reduce these, but then you wouldn't buy the DIY series.

Sorry, my bad. Didn't realize we were talking about the precharged line sets. Not a fan of those. The loops are far from idea, but in that case, what other choice do you have?

Can you explain "far from ideal"?

My friends here who are decades in HVAC both said this will cause no problems and they only look weird.

Not sure what you mean by this. The DIY kits come with 16' or 25' precharged linesets. That's what we're discussing.

My earlier spec sheet lists them as 15' and 25' -- I see the Mr.Cool site has them as 16'.

If you need the 16' .. order the 16'?

The earlier series had the line attached to the head -- one set of quicks --- you can still buy this one at lower prices. It only came with the 25' line.

The new series now has two sets of quicks --- I was told they were coming with other lengths ... including a 10'. Connectors available to link two sets together for longer runs.

It seems the ideal is serpentine to eat up the excess -- but that's hard outside and easier inside a wall. It's seems the roll up is the typical setup and since they have been around a while ... it must not hurt them. Make sure weil insulated

Rather than coil up 10 feet, I'd probably read and figure out the minimum length before I had to remove refrigerant. As I don't do the flares every day, I might have someone come out and do the flares and vac/pressure test the whole thing...

Again...this is the DIY kit. It comes with a precharged line set. No flares, etc.

off topic but,

Where did you guys order from? I ordered mine from Ingrams on July 14th and it still has not shipped and I cannot get a hold of them. Email or call them. I have waited 45 minutes on the phone in the call que before giving up. I noticed the unit now says backordered but it was not when i ordered.

Costco, but probably will end up with the same issue.

I was under the impression the pre-charge works for 16' thru 25' . You would add or remove accordingly . I'm not positive , but I heard that somewhere .

Precharged only comes with the DIY units. DIY wouldn't include cutting and brazing (silver solder) line sets.

I ordered mine Home Depot last year. The boxes looked like it’d been through a war zone, but the contents were ok. I got the advantage series instead of the 18k. I have a friend who does hvac work on the side/hobby so he helped me install it and was able to shorten and flare the lines to make a nice neat installation.

My order from Costco came in 3 boxes, great condition. The 2 large boxes and a separate box for the lineset, make sure you get that 3rd box. Took just under 1 week from the day I ordered it to show up. Installed it last weekend and LOVE it. Super quiet and yesterday before the kids and I went to do some work out in the garage, it took 10 mins no lie to cut the humidity immediately and make it comfy. I've found in the afternoon it took about an hour to reduce the temp a good amount of degrees, but it cuts the humidity by like 25-30%. I actually walked into the garage and felt chilly, and I love it ice cold in the house. Should have gotten this years ago
