Looking at picking up a Milwaukee 0886-20 18v portable fan, are they worth the $80 price tag? I've read that the fans can be hard on batteries, specifically with regards to full discharge, any truth to this?

Acme has them in their flyer for 69. I use mine all the time. Usually use mine on medium and will last most of the day. Also nice to plug it in if you have a plug in close by

I have one and love it. I have only used it with a battery a couple of times and not long enough to kill a battery so I can't speak for that. It's usually on my bench plugged in.

Love mine.

Mine is also usually plugged in.

But a couple of summers ago it saved my 91 year old father in law and his 3 brothers, 85, 87 and 89 at a wicked hot family reunion.

HD I think also has bare tool for $69 now.

I found it loud, and disliked the brick for the AC adapter. I returned it.

I like the fans. They move some air. I have had the kill 2 different 5ah batteries when I forgot to turn them off and they took the charge down below what the charger would recognize. I now only use batterys that are in warranty, but I haven't had an issue since to make an issue about.

There are a few posts out on the net about putting the brick inside the unit. The brick is a drag.

I have had it since it came out and have used it for hours on battery. I've actually used it more on the battery than plugged in. I have a bunch of batteries and find it more convenient to just swap batteries when it goes dead unless I'm using it in the shed where I won't be moving it around.

I like mine but don't use it much. It has been out for a long time, I guess it's not a popular item as it hasn't been updated. Newer cordless fans c4om other brands are much better. Personally I wouldn't buy it but then again I wouldn't buy another brand since I'm on the M18 platform. I got mine for last Christmas. I agree it is a bit loud but doesn't bother me.

I hated the ac adapter also, I modded mine.

I bought one a few months ago for when I am working inside truck cabs and it works great,on really hot days I also leave it on my toolbox running off the AC adapter.

Ive used one daily at work for two years, have had no issues with it at all, well worth the price for me when moving air in a confined space

Mine has been a lifesaver.

High speed really chews up the battery.

I can get 2 8 hour days minus lunch from a 9.0 on medium. I don't think that a 9.0 will even make a full work day with the fan on high speed.

I also dislike the wall wart adapter. Milwaukee certainly could have done better here. At least providing a socket to plug an extension cord into would have been nice.

I'm kind of tired of Milwaukee's business model of bringing out a "mostly there" product and then releasing the "improved" version the following year.

Have two of them and love them. I always use them with batteries so I don’t care about the power adapters. I use them on the job site especially when setting cabinets and such, even if there is no A/C air movement makes all the difference. I also take them camping for the same reason. Keep one in my truck when at the station, fire trucks are notorious for A/C that doesn’t work or when it goes out they will not pay to get it fixed so I have one on to keep air moving in the cab. You do have to worry about the battery draw. It’s so small it will allow the battery to get drained past the built in regulator in the battery and some have had there larger 12ah batteries go bad because of this. I normally run 5ah batteries in mine and don’t have any issues and they easily get me through the day.

They ****... I'm being serious. The Ridgid fan is FAR superior. If you have any other battery platform get their fan instead.

Wall wart line voltage you need to keep track of

Speed dial is not fully variable... slow is NOT slow enough, by a lot.

Noisy big time....

All the others are much better design. Ridgid is the best one.

Yeah, variable speed would be nice.

Sometimes, slower would be nice too.

If one already has Milwaukee M18 tools, the fan is an easy $69 to $89 purchase as a tool only item.

Buying the Ridgid fan, a charger and a battery is gonna set me back at least $170- and that only gets me a 2Ah battery.

No thanks.

Maybe Milwaukee will get it right with V2.0...

I have one and it's been running for 3 years since I got it. THey move tons of air and don't discharge batteries. Mine just go to 1 bar and stops. I just wished Milwaukee came up with an oscillating fan like the Makita.
