I like both garages. I especially like how you put the checkerboard pattern only under the cars. It keeps the pattern from being too damn busy like when guys put it throughout the entire garage floor. I have seen 4 black tiles opposite 4 white tiles and it looks better on a full floor than the 1'x1' busy-ness.

That Syclone is an awesome truck. Wish I could have gone for a ride in one... Which is faster, the Typhoon or Syclone?

Great taste in trucks! The original garage looked great and the current one does as well.

Hey Dan, yeah, I thought the same thing befoer I did it. I did not want it to be too busy with all the black and white, thats why I went for just under the trucks.

Can you give us a report on the Liftmaster opener? That looks to be the answer to my 12' doors. Any comments positive or negative would be good and would you spec another one in your next build?

Thanks in advance

Hey LG,

Yes, I love it. Its been there for about 1 year. I installed it myself and it was no problem setting it up. The longest part was hiding the wires, I'm a stickler for that, it has to be neat, clean and hidden. I would definitely use another on any future builds I may have. I'm no expert, but for a basic DIYer, its a do-able project.

SyTyJim -

Great looking set up. The tool-box sized indent in your cabinets to house your tool box is a great idea!

Q - up around your ceiling, you have red tubing hung. Is that rubber air line or do you have red rope lighting up there?

Full disclosure: if SyTyJim does in fact have red rope lighting in his garage, I think he needs to post up a night time picture of his garage in all of it's pimp daddy greatness.

Jimmy,
I would have put a black stripe around the checkboard area, and I would have been WRONG. Yours - without that - looks much cleaner. A black line would have been too definitive in my opinion, like an area rug or something. VERY nice looking floor and while familiar looking, not the same old/same old checkboard. I like checkboard floors, but a little goes a long way. Yours looked perfect to me. Congrats.

Great garages and trucks. Where in CT? I'm originally from Thomaston (north of Waterbury on Route 8).

We lived in Milford, CT. for 5 years before moving to GA.

I love the garage and trucks, great job!

Thanks! Hope to get this newer garage up to par with the original!

Great vehicles and great other garage  Looking forward to pics of the new garage floor redo.

Question about the rope lighting....well, a couple of questions really. Where did you purchase it from? One of the box stores? And do you have any problems with it? The reason I ask is that I put rope lighting around the 16' garage door that we had and I had to replace it three times. The bulbs kept blowing out and then half the strand was burnt out. All within a few months. After the third time I said to hell with it and just chucked it. I would like to put it around the top in my garage when I get it remodeled, but if I have the same problem, I won't. Also do you have any problems with bugs or spiders attracted to it?

I bought these back in 2005 from a store called 'Christmas Tree Shops' in CT. Not sure if you have of these stores by you. I have seen White lights in Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Not sure if you can get red from these stores or not. I really dont use it everyday, so they have lasted a while. They are starting to go out in a few small sections. Also, I havent had them on that long to see about the bug problem.

Awesome pair of trucks...

Thanks!

Lowes carries the lights in all different colors, white, blue, red, purple, and yellow. At least I think yellow:headscrat

I may still try them out. The ones I had were probably 10 years ago that I had the problems. I tried Christmas lights but they would go out too. I'm thinking it may be a heat thing causing it. I have a beam in the garage that I think I will recess the lights into it an a channel, so we'll see how that works. What I like about them is thay put out just enough light to get around with. We normally have our garage doors open in the summer into the evenings so it make it pretty nice to have a small amount of light.

Thats was the idea for me to...just enough light for the evenings, but the friggin' bugs are too much. I am thinking about buying screens for my garage openings. Ahh, more decisions to make!

Nice rides. I also like the garage set up, especially the cork board displaying your trucks info! I hope you dont mind if the idea shows up in my garage...:)
In your old garage, were you able to use a jack on the tile? how about the white grout, would that not stain easily?

Crown Molding in the garage - nice, never seen that before.

What made you switch to the Lift Master 3800?

What is the lock?

Thanks! I didn't want to clutter up the space above my trucks and the LiftMaster 3800 fit the bill. I wanted it 'hidden' so to say. In my old garage I had Wanye Dalton openers and before I moved started reading about problems others were having. I did not want to chance it. The lock is for the Lift Master 3800. Once the door shuts, it locks, so nobody can pry it open if the power goes out.

Thanks! By all means copy away! I never tried the jack on the tile, I did not want to find out the hard way. I sealed the grout before I put the trucks there, so that helped when oil did drip. When I do my new garage, I'm going with a grey grout instead.
