....make that my 1st two Snap On ratchets. :shocking: Enjoy this Matco sandwich I assembled.....

That pretty much sums up what I think of them.

F80 and SL80, I picked up from our fellow Garage Journal member glenmore. Can't thank him enough, both ratchets are in great shape and arrived in BOMB PROOF packaging!!!

Do you think my Matco ratchets will be jealous when these go in my box tomorrow?

One old Matco 1/2" ratchet is going to be relegated back to truck toolbox use....poor thing. The SL80 is taking it's spot in the shop box. I still enjoy my Matco Locking Flexheads 88's, got the 3/8" in the picture, and the 17" 1/2" as well, both orange handles but I didn't know why people fussed over the Dual 80's until now.

I think I feel a fever coming on.....can anything help me at this point? :lol_hitti

When I got my first dual 80 my coworker was like dude that ain't worth it. Then he tried it and was like WOW

Earlier this week, I put some "battle scars" on my 1st Snap-on ratchet... I stupidly shorted the positive terminal of a battery. It burned through the chrome on the end of the ratchet and scared the s**t out of me. Try not to do this, okay? And I'd only had it about two months!

There was a pretty good deal on a pair in the classifieds here today, John, but Hiball jumped on them. I was tempted, but still find it hard to pay even $40 for a single rat unless it's a real oddball.

I was thinking the same thing when debating on buying the ratchets.....needless to say, SO ratchets aren't cheap, but they certainly don't feel cheap either!! Can't wait to use them.....

I was laughing as I read this post, not at your misfortune, but at the visual of you ratcheting away, seeing a flash, hearing a pop, then you almost dropping the ratchet. :shocking:

I assume that is how it looked, followed by you studying the ratchet and being pissed about the charred spot on your ratchet. :mad:

I'll make sure to heed your words! Thanks for the laugh though. :thumbup:

Wasn't pissed at all... I was working on a $100K+ Cessna airplane and my first though was about the well-being of the airplane and its avionics, not a $80 ratchet. Airplanes, as I'm learning, are rather delicate things. They're not oil-field tough, so to speak.

You put that into perspective very well.....

I hate wiring and electronic problems.....an $80 ratchet short, or even a $10 ratchet short which ruined a planes electronics would be a mighty big kick in the shorts..... :(

How do you guys think the dual 80 ratchets compare to the matco 88's? I have never used a dual 80, but I really like the matco 88's I have.

Personally, I think they are both great ratchets. Does the Dual 80 feel smoother? To me, yes. I really need to lube up the 88's so I compare them honestly again, but even with a touch of lube, I think the Dual 80's will feel smoother.

That doesn't mean I don't like my 88's. I like the Matco's Locking Flexhead design better than Snap On. And I really like how LIGHT the 88's are when compared to the Dual 80's.

In the end, I think they are both great ratchets and with either choice, you have a better ratchet than probably 95% of them out there.
