Reminder:
This is the last weekend for the vise poll. Your tally has to be in before Sunday midnight. (Actually a few minutes after that)

Thanks to the 250 members who have already entered your totals.

I missed a couple. I voted at 5 but I missed 2.

Reed 105. Haven't found a year on it yet. Mounted on my workbench
5 in leg vise in storage.
2.5 bench vise brand unknown
Old pipe vise clamp type brand unknown haven't used in 20 years and in storage
Saw filing vise, ball Mount. In storage
3 in Craftsman from the early 80's
3 in Pony vise mounted on a receiver for truck hitch.

First 5 in inheited from my father. They could have been his father's but I don't know as he passed away when I was 2.

Thanks to everyone who tallied up their vises and entered the number into the poll I’ve been running the last couple of months. The poll is now closed. It’s remarkable to me how similar the results are comparing numbers from 2018 and the latest one 2020.
Here are the results with bar graphs, numbers, and percentages.

Look at the doubling of the percentage of respondents who have 51-100 vises.
Other categories are remarkably stable year to year.
Also, the number of entries (261 to 265) is almost exactly the same, even though 2 years have passed.

Thanks to you Shiftless for doing this poll. I don't know about anybody else but I'm curious what "Over 200" really means. :headscrat

I decided to make the top category 200+
There aren’t a lot of fellows with over 200 vises but if one of them has a thousand, it would still be in that category.
Are you are trying to visualize what 200 vises would look like all in one place?
For me, at barely over 100, it means about 10 feet of floor to ceiling shelving with a few others stashed elsewhere. Since I have divested myself of the over 100 pound biggies, the average size is smaller than many other vise aficionados so my collection takes up less space.
The guys with 200 or more have a much bigger storage situation.

I was just curious as to the actual size of these 200+ collections.

It’s not easy to take a representative photo but here is part of my vise room down in the basement.

You need 1 more. It's made of wood, looks like a Chas. Parker, and sits about 3 feet high. Positioned in the middle, it would make a perfect place to set down glasses of whiskey, served neat, as you entertained guests in the Vise Room! :)

It would be nice to monitor this topic further and continue the survey. It's still interesting. For example, I saw models that I had never seen before.

PanaVise, vacuum base, 2.5 inch jaws
Stihl stump vise, 2 parts
(cut notch in stump, put the base in notch, and clamp bar with screw, see picture)

Ok
I can’t extend the poll deadline, but I will monitor new postings on this thread I started and put in my two cents worth from time to time. Others are certainly free to do the same.

Looks a bit dangerous. Some good ol’ boys might clamp a running chain saw with that and speed cut long branches.

Thanks for the fantasy thought, Lugz.
I saw that wooden vise display on another thread.

Where did you ever get the idea that I liked whisky?

Finally, I can take a few snaps of what I have tomorrow. I think it will be interesting for many to see such varieties of grip available to me.

I took a few pictures of very interesting snaps. They have several degrees of rotation and I think will be interesting in terms of familiarization. I hope you're interested.

I looked carefully at your link and disagree with what is similar. They have a fundamentally different design and as I pointed out can rotate in horizontal and vertical planes. Plus, they have two types of sponges-one small and the second with uniform connectors. Plus, it will be necessary to show that they are moving apart for their modest size very widely.

I got mine at Harbor Freight. I use it on my jeweler's bench. I like the swivel-ability and the jaws with the grooves. Also like that I can remove the jaws and make custom jaws/jigs to hold weird shaped stuff.

For me, I don't need it to hammer on or to hold anything big. Mostly just a good third hand type use. I remove it when not in use (the clamp part blocks the lower bench drawers).

I just did a count, for the first time and holy cast iron, Batman!!
The number is 39!
I gotta get busy with all those ebay flips I had planned... I think the actual number I've done is umm 4?

news flash - I just bought another Parker 63 1/2 - too good a deal to pass up. That makes the number 40.

But I'm gonna refurb and resell this one. Soon, real soon. Honest!!

I agree with these Asian clutches a lot in common. True, they are not made in Asia. Previously, such clutches were prepared in the SSSR. Alas, such clutches are very rare and in demand. Here are some photos to compare my texts and those that were posted earlier.
