Okay so After like 30 mins of cleaning the 4 drawer Pressteel. Maybe it was a fair deal for both of us. This is my first Pressteel so I was maybe overly excited and overlooked a few of the faults. Top drawer had something heavy sitting in it and push down the bottom and drew the front in a bit so it doesn't sit 100% flush, also there is no paint left inside the top drawer. The outside spray over seems like it was done a long time ago over the original blue hammer paint, as of now it doesn't look worth wild to try and remove the red spray bomb. One of the casters has a flat spot... The original owner definitely got their moneys worth out of this one.

You have an uncommon cabinet in that 4-drawer. Pressteel cabinets are still common enough that you shouldn't have too much trouble finding another box to rob parts from. Once you're done, you will have a highly sought after cabinet!

Pretty soon he’ll have 4 of them [emoji15][emoji23] I am so jealous of the 4 drawers!

Just came home with this beauty. Beach 12 drawer, rebadged for Mastercraft. It’s 9.9/10 condition. Picked it up from the original owners widow. We got along very well and she tossed in his 1960-era craftsman oxy-acet brazing and cutting torch kit with full tanks for free. Real good day.

Tomorrow I have a lead on a middle 2-drawer matching box plus a 9-drawer top box. A B29 12 drawer would be killer. They’re easier to find at least.

Old Smokey, that looks fantastic! I always liked old Beach boxes due to huge amount of shallow drawers which would be great for all the small sets.
What are the dimensions of the bottom box?

Looks to be 27” wide and 42” tall. It’s fantastic! I’m using my snap on box for all the heavy tools and the Beach box for keeping my small parts organized. I have a ton of those Husky organizers and it’s like they were tailor made to fit in the Beach drawers!

Hoping to grab the mid and top matching ones tomorrow.

I picked this up today mainly to tease Twertsy who is self admitted Cornwell junky. I figured it was 30s but of course he will find out for sure.

Next time you see this it will be at the Twertsy Tool Temple on display. :)

Are those drawer pulls original? They're pretty wicked.

They are original for sure. It's in remarkably great shape. Everything works really well. This is a 1938 Cornwell box. Twertsy tracked down the date pretty quickly. He's lucky I'm not a Cornwell guy otherwise this would have to find a place to hide here in my garage.

Got the two drawer mid box today, $30.

It’s in rougher condition and the paint has faded a bit, but I am gonna hit it with some gentle compound and polish to see if I can bring it back a bit. Ugly stickers coming off pronto!

I had a line on a top box, smaller size drawer unit in mint shape, but the person was a no show when I went to pick it up. Strange really. Maybe tomorrow..

Love the Beach and that Cornwell box! Those handles!
I grabbed this today for $40, it lasted all of 3 minutes on OfferUp. Is cleaning up nicely. Roller drawers are like silk..

Nice! I would me more worried if the person did not show up for mid part. Top ones are not as rare. Hopefully you complete this stack soon!

In case anyone is interested, here is the 1938 Cornwell catalog info on the box I grabbed for Twertsy. He shot this over to me when I showed him that his precious was safely stored in my garage.

Tool stack complete!!

I picked up the top box today. It was missing the front cover handle, which really sticks out visually when the cabinet is basically a big stack of handles. I asked if he had it by chance, but he said no way. He's never had it, got the box without the handle.

I brought it home and opened it up....and a brand new replacement handle with bolts are sitting in a sealed bag right there! Next to it is an 1935-ish Cornwell 1/2 ratchet and some other old tools. The box in as nice shape as the bottom box! Even has an original owners envelop with labeling instructions, and keys in original packaging. Wild!

Let me be the first one to congratulate you on completion of the set, Old_Smokey!
This is a fantastic stack!

If I were you, I would try to put a black liner to accent the drawers and protect them. If you want to make it less expensive, consider black yoga mats from 5 below (the only negative is that heavier tools leave indentations when removed).

Hello all,

Picked up this Union Machinist's box a few days ago. Bought from the son of the original owner. His dad was a machinist and he bought it in the 50s. The seller too was a machinist and retired a few years ago. The box was used by father and son.

It's seen use that's for sure. Most drawers still have the felt. There is still metal swarf that needs to be cleaned out. The drawers are loose, but could be tightened up a wee bit perhaps with some tweaking of the sliders. Almost everything is 2-handed operation, including opening and closing. But again, that's ok by me.

The brown in the top is old contact cement from the now missing felt. Any ideas on safe removal for the hardened contact cement?

I'll disassemble the drawers (there something stuck at the back of the bottom drawer), see if I can tighten things up a bit, clean, lube and reassemble.

Thank you,

Matthew

The box is not vintage but I thought I would post these up. This is what happens when a man gets bored and has old pallets to re-purpose. Salvaged some lumber to build a case for my Dads old Snap-On TQ-250L. My wife just rolled her eyes but I think its pretty cool. Plus little things like this keep me out of the bars...lol
