I deserve it because I love torture.

I just put down an EC floor in the shop, but hey 500sqft would cover the garage!

Sung to the tune of "Carolina in the Morning"

Nothing could be more fetching than to be etching in the morning
No one could be sweeter than my squeegee when I apply her in the morning
Where the morning Epoxy
Shines around the door
Shouting with shiny moxie
I long to gaze once more
Rolling with my frame, feeling ever so game in the morning
Flakes how they flutter up, pretty has a buttercup at dawning
If I had the Wife's help for only a day
I'd make her mix and this is what I'd say
Nothing could be more fetching than to be etching in the morning

canada included?...................

I will include Canada, with a stipulation. Depending on shipping costs, you may have to share that expense with me. I can get costly shipping over the border unfortunately. :shocking:

Also, I am only accepting entries from this forum. I do not have hundreds of "stories" yet.

Probably millions of people entered the contest. So, if yours was so embarrassing and you really think it wasn't that great there's a big chance it won't and anyway aren't contests voluntary. So, even if yours does get picked that isn't that bad because it might be kinda cool and do you get paid? And anyway, if yours was soooo embarrasing it prob won't get picked. So, don't worry to much but then again there's always a chance! And plus, it's just for fun.

ok... I have read 5 of your posts... is this spam or is there some self medication going on?

Smells fishy

Nothing fishy about it!! Our company has been in this business for over 20 years. Ask around about our customer service. If I say I am going to give a kit away, I will. I will post who wins. Thought it might be fun and get some amusing stories out of it. I appreciate all the support this forum has given our companies over the last year or so since I have been here. If you do not like it, then don't participate.

A few of us have used epoxy-coat recently. It is a very good product and Christine and the rest of them are very customer oriented. Had I not just done my floor I would be jumping all over this. And if you guys don't jump on it, then I will and just make my floor even thicker!

So I just walked downstairs and measured my garage...532 sq ft :lol_hitti

You should totally give it to me, because it only coats UP TO 500 sq ft, and I'll be too afraid to use the kit since it may not actually cover all of my garage and I'll be able to put the boxes and cans of your product proudly on display next to the case of ammo that I salvaged from my grandfathers storage shed. There are also tear gas canisters in that box and flare rounds...all of which probably worked back in the 70's but has long since turned to dust and covered the 1960's model Craftsman circular saw on the shelf below that may work but the frayed wire on it scares me too much to try plugging it in. My mother-in-law gave me this one "jut in case you need nother one bria" (she's Thai and doesn't speak very good engrish and that's how she sounds...my name is actually Brian but for some reason I think "N's" may actually be silent in Thailand.) Anyway, that circular saw is sitting right next to a resonator box and front license plate bracket for a 1995 Acura Legend Coupe that's sitting (broken clutch disc) in the driveway. In fact, there are a couple of engines and various assorted parts for that same Legend scattered all over the place. I recently finished...well, almost finished...a workbench project in the garage (POSTED HERE) but it's in need of some organization and a mounted vise in order to really be of any use to me...right now it's storing more unfinished projects and random bits of flowers and chalk. Did I mention that I have 2 daughters? They like chalk...and flowers...and apparently my almost-done workbench. But I digress, I would proudly display your product on the top shelf of my 5-tier metal shelf unit (because the lower 4 shelves are all full with project-type stuff) and would gladly promote the potential use of your project to anyone willing to step up, over, around, and under the different, potentially hazardous, on-going projects I've somehow collected. I'm sure your product is a wonderful floor coating, and would do well on my 3 year old garage floor with little prep from me. It doesn't lose its coating properties through age does it? Because, if I actually did win, it may be YEARS before I get around to actually USING it!

Wait! On second thought, this may be just the motivation I need and could actually cause a domino effect with all the other projects I have ongoing...maybe winning this kit could be the catalyst I need to finally break into the winners circle of life and finish a project! I see it now: the garage opens to reveal a perfectly organized garage, with everything neatly in its place and every space perfectly utilized for utmost efficiency. Highlighted by a beautiful new epoxy garage floor coating and pointing out the glaring bare walls and unfinished bench. Sheesh! On second thought, winning may be too much work in the long run. Maybe I'll just start working on the next project instead...

I unequivocally know I deserve to be given an epoxy floor kit, and here is why:

1. After building my garage-mahal, I’m penniless and cannot afford to coat the floor with a quality product like Epoxy-Coat.com’s floor coating kit. Ok, maybe not. I can actually afford the kit, and my garage is under 600sf. But it is my castle that I enjoy working in after I get home from the 9-5 job.

2. Whenever I do any kind of work in the garage, concrete dust is floating into my lungs giving me cancer. Ok, maybe not. It is new concrete that I am trying to keep clean, and I didn’t see any stickers on the foundation stating that the product is known to the State of California to cause cancer.

3. My bare concrete garage floor is so rough the bristles of my broom are falling out every time I use it. Ok, this time it’s true. The bristles do fall out every time I use it. The broom was found in the old shed in the back yard when I bought the house, and is probably older than me.

4. With an Epoxy-Coat.com floor, masses of people will amazingly appear wondering how I made my garage floor so sparkling and amazing looking. It will look so amazing my humble cars will magically turn into exotic European supercars, and they will all ask me where to get a floor just like it. Ok, maybe not. The floor will be nice to look at and be easy to clean, but only my friends, family and neighbors will see it. And my cars will still be the same humble transportation units that need another wash/ wax and oil change.

In reality, I’m just another guy with a fairly new garage that would like to make it look nicer. I keep normal stuff in the garage, such as one modern car, one vintage car, the lawn mower, tool chest, and a work bench. I turn wrenches in the evenings for fun and will get grease and oil all over the floor at some point. I also do a hack job at some wood working projects, and try to keep the house standing. I am building my garage to be nice looking, easy to clean, and well organized so I can enjoy working in it and not be afraid to help out friends and family when the need arises. If I were to win, I would gladly have my wife take pictures of me working (I promise I will smile!) and retell how well it works and looks here on Garage Journal.

The 25 year build and daughters:
In 1982 my wife and I purchased her parents old house and moved from our starter home that we had been in for three years. Being an ex- bodyman with a ton of tools and a twenty foot boat this was not the ideal move-up as there was no garage, but a great neighborhood. In 1985 after saving up some money I started to build my 26x32 dream garage, the same year that daughter number one arrived. Well o.k. "I will at least get the outside done and the floor, and be able to park the boat inside" I told myself. In 1987 I had saved up enough money that I could run the underground electric from the house and hook up the old Curtis compressor from the old house. Heck I even could insulate and drywall, put in some nice lighting, build some cabinets and benches, and maybe just maybe coat the floor! Just about this time daughter number two came along. "Well at least the insulation and the drywall could be put up and I have some old lights I can use" I told myself. And according to the wife "those little Tylkes toys and bicycles can be stored out of the way in front of the boat and we can move them if we take the boat out"
I figured that some day I would get to finish my garage and the boat would be great for weekend outings and camping when the girls were a little older. Now who would have thought that I would have two daughters that wanted to be in 4h and ride quarter horses, not me that's for sure. Good bye boat hello two horse aluminum trailer, western and english tack and tack boxes, oldest daughters first car, youngest daughters first car. You can probably see where this is going. I have really never been able to even park my daily driver in this garage since day one.
Fast forward to 2010: Youngest daughters last quarter of grad school next quarter, no more tuition bills! Finally maybe I can finish my garage, dust off the old tools and have a nice place to work on our cars I tell myself. So I replace the old windows and service door that are by now pretty worn out. I finally start to finish the drywall that is now pretty yellow but seems o.k. And I work up that material list for some nice lights, those storage cabinets I would like to build, and just maybe have enough to even do the floor. Heck I even dream about what it would be like to be able to leave for work at 5a.m and not have to scrape windows on my car. Then wife reminds me that we promised the youngest daughter a party when she graduated form Grad school. I tell myself "well maybe just the lights and some paint for now I can always finish it some day". Then while researching I stumble on the Garage Forum site and read about Christines offer. "Maybe, just maybe I will even be able to epoxy my floor" I tell myself.

Well, I just purchased my first house and close on April 30. My new wife of 2 months thinks its more important to have a dishwasher installed in the house rather than painting the garage floor. I will be very happy to have my first garage which is a whopping 280 sqft. Small but I will still be able to pull in one snowmobile at a time. I will put your epoxy to the test by dragging snowmobiles over it all winter. I would love to see what it can stand up to.

I don't deserve anything, I'm actually very fortunate. Im 24, have a job, own a house, have my health, a girlfriend and a car I love. But if you feel like I'm worthy, I'll do what I can to document my use of it.

My entry, a timeline of my past year.

April 2009 - I found a home that appeased me. Being short on monies and wanting to put as much towards the downpayment, I neglected to have the home fully inspected. Instead, I had the inspector check for termites and radon. During my negotations, I had them pump the septic tank. The previous owners' disclaimer didn’t highlight any known issues with the home regarding the septic system.

May 2009 - I purchased the home. The lawyer I used for the closing did not find any documented issued with the home that were on file with the town.

August 2009 - Need to replace roof. Insurance company mails me a letter advising my roof shows signs of wear, replace or the policy will not be renewed. I start saving.

October 2009 - Start to replace roof but I underestimate my budget. Half the roof gets done. I get it acceptably ready for winter.

December 2009 - Sewage isn't draining from the house to the septic tank. A clogged pipe is the culprit. Septic guy instantly sees a problem when he opens the tank. The baffle in front of the pipe is corroded. FML.

January 2010 - The system is not properly draining again. Sewage water is backing up into the basement. I called the septic specialist, we uncover the tank lid and discover the water level is at it's peak. The leeching fields are not properly percolating the water out of the tank. I have the tank pumped. (it was pumped 7 months before this)

Febuary 2010 - I choose to pay a contractor to finish the roof. A job well done, one project out of the way. But it wasnt by the insurance companies' deadline. I can't renew my policy :(

March 2010 - I speak w/ two neighbors in the area who were well aware that the previous owner was encountering problems with the septic system. The neighbors advise how he never changed it because it would cost too much. I call a lawyer.. he tells me its not worth suing someone you don't know because it could cost me thousands, and theres no guarantee he can pay. Truth hurts.

April 2010 - The septic specialist provides me a written contract of the work necessary to hook up to the sewer (sewer connection is uphill, on the opposite side of a neighbors property). Total cost of the work is as follows:
Cost of work (remove old septic, replace tank, add grinder pump, plumb lines to the sewer): $12,870.00
Bonds/Permits: $2350
Landscaping: $1375.86
I call another specialist recommended to me by my town sewer office, and the contractor is familiar with my house... Turns out the previous owner asked him for a quote two years before I bought the house.

April 2010... Last week - someone breaks into my house and helps themselves to my clothes/shoes, my laptop, my digital camera, my girlfriends camera and roommates clothing/wristwatch as well. I fix the damage, replace my girlfriends camera, my roommates clothes. Meanwhile.. its been 10 days and my insurance adjuster still hasn't assessed my claim.

Through all of this I've remained level, keeping others ahead of myself. ie. Saturday, the 24th, I'll be volunteering to help fix elderly & low-income houses in my town. I'm not a master of any home-repair trade but I know for sure I can carry shingles up a ladder, tolerate the smell of a septic and repair a broken window. Anything I learn from volunteering will be a nice plus.

Now the reason I ask for your consideration. Father's Day is Sunday, June 21 2009. His garage is 200sq feet. Mine is around 300sq feet. I emailed him the link for epoxy-coat just last week and he loved it. Its an excellent opportunity for the two of us to work on a project together. Its been a rough year, but this would be a nice start to the next rolling 12 months.

Best,
Kris

ps: i love photography.

How about for a father son project.
My son is 12 now and loves muscle cars. Could be because of my 73 Dodge Challenger I've had ever since he was born. It's in need of restoration now, covered up with a tarp in the back yard waiting for my shop to be built. He also is a mopar fan (don't know way!).

We have been planning to restore it when the shop gets built. He's right about that age he will take a strong interest into it and want to help. I've done promised the car to him when he gets older so he tells everyone it's his car.

A few years ago, I had a wealthy car collector offer me a good bit of cash for the car. I was thinking hard about it so I called my son and asked what he thought, even telling him we could buy him a 4-wheeler with the money. He clearly without hesitation said "NOPE!" I hung up the phone and told the gentleman I could not sell the car.

He is so looking forward to this project I can't wait to get the shop built. I'm getting permits now and have the concrete form built.

One other reason. I will have to buy more from you to finish the job!!!

Thanks, Scott.

Top 10 Reasons I should be the Epoxy-Coat winner
10) I’m far less wealthy and controversial than Tiger Woods and I promise not to park a Buick on it.
9) I have never been on or planned to be on a reality TV show
8) I have never received a government bailout of any kind. In fact the government has played quite the opposite role in my business.
7) Bare naked concrete is just obscene
6) For the price of just one Epoxy-Coat kit you can provide a safe warm environment for hundreds of neglected tools who are struggling to survive in a cold, cramped poorly lit shed with bare concrete floors. You will be breaking the cycle of neglect and abuse.
5) This will be going into my newly built shop which I may be forced to live in with the ever-increasing budget.
4) If you build it they will come. My old bare concrete attracted only Craftsman and Harbor Freight tools and an assortment of Japanese economy cars. My new Epoxy-Coat floor is sure to attract classic cars and fine tools
3) I am located in 72 degree California and a trip from Michigan would be tax deductible.
2) I am not above shamelessly plugging Epoxy-Coat any chance I get
1) My new garage is 1828 sf so I’ll have to buy a lot more product to complete the job.

I bought my epoxy-coat 2 weeks ago but haven't yet used it because I can't find the time. I did take the effort to etch the floor (3 times) until it was just perfect. Then it got too cold and snowed. So I cleaned the floor again with my power washer. Then it rained. A few more days passed and I cleaned the floor again. Then my wife asked me to do some other things around the house. Next, I had a 9 day stretch of working. Today, I cleaned the floor again, this time with a Bissell carpet scrubber ( It seemed like a good idea at the time). Tomorrow I am/was planning to finally put down the epoxy. After reading this thread, I now have another reason to delay and clean once again. It would be great to make the floor even thicker!

So, you could go ahead help the:

1. NINJA - cause seriously that is some funny sh**. And the best part is in order to do that he had someone taking pictures. Gets even funnier thinking about the person holding the camera cracking up. Although, I may exclude the ninja for breaking the first rule of being a ninja. THERE ARE NO NINJAs.

2. You could give it to GARAGE ENVY - But seriously, his fricking garage is 1824sf. I ask you, does a man with 1824sf garage need any more luck. Next he will tell us his wife is hot, loves talking about tools, and has a fetish for picking up empty beers and replacing them with fresh ones. Just saying.

3. THE FATHER SON PROJECT - because I cannot come up with anything bad on this one. And since I cannot, I will just have to put out there a rumor that there is no son. This is all obviously an elaborate ruse to pull on the heart strings of this forum. And I for one cannot abide. Besides, you did say humor was good and that is just a heartwarming story.

4. KRISM – The man said it himself, he deserves NOTHING. And I for one will not go against a man’s convictions. Are you willing to?

5. Jokeman – Do him favor and let him save his marriage. The man has other stuff to be doing.

6. YMERJ – Just poor planning if you ask me.

7. RUDY - made me google "Carolina in the Morning". DISQUALIFIED!

8. NATHANK - He compared your flooring product and installation procedure to torture.

Again, just saying.
I have been looking at epoxy flooring for 5 years now. I have priced it out on at least 10 different occasions. I have learned the differences between, and the chemical make up of, just about every product out there. I cannot pull the trigger. I am a mess. If you were to give me your product my pain would be over. There are probably at least 100 others out there that are fighting this same battle. At least 80 of those persons have told me they want me to win so that my misery may be over. And, by extension their misery.

So, you could give it to any ONE of these worthy prospects, or as I have plainly layed out, you can give it to me and help 81 people!
I will be at my PC awaiting your e-mail and thank you for your consideration. You kind, caring, warmhearted maker/seller of the most amazing looking, best performing, and MIGHT I ADD reasonably priced product in the garage flooring market.

Did I mention I am blessed with three children under 3 years old and would not be able to do this project on my own with out your most honorable assistance.

Also, meet my 5 year old GSP named RUGER. IT IS FAIT I tell you!

Ahh Tolken4 I'm hurt by your negative campaigning but I would like to clarify a few things for the record. Yes, my wife is hot and is quite comfortable with a sawzall, drill, chopsaw or even a rotary demo hammer in her hand.:bounce: She would make an excellent model for the Epoxy-Coat product. She'd sure look a lot better in the photo than my fat self. Also, presently I have no garage whatsoever.

Incidentally, how come "Ruger's" doghouse says Wolverine over the door?
Let's face it, if Tolken4 wins this contest he'll probably take another 10 years to decide on a color combination. Let's take the high road here. Don't make me get out the Polaroid's

All in good fun Tolken 4. Don't take it seriously.....but here is a picture of my wife helping demo the old garage.

You should give me the kit because if I win I will do all the work while wearing one of these and document the entire process here with a lot of pictures.

Kris,
You don't need an attorney. Take him to small claims court. Up to $10k.

So far my vote is for Kris , then ninja (that ladder thing is funny)- but I want to know about the garage!
Post up pics of the garages you want to use the kit on!

Pictures of my garage are attached. I just bought the house last winter, as you can see the garage floor has been poorly neglected. I actually got the ok from my fiance to overhaul it this summer :bounce:. I have to take her up on the offer before we get married in the fall and she decides to changes her mind.

You should give me the kit because I need it:

- May 3rd deadline is the day our new house will be vacated; must be fate.
- Buying more house for a bigger family (for wife)
- Buying a house closer to my son's grandparents (for grandparents)
- Getting a smaller garage to accomodate the above (for wife and grandparents)

An epoxy floor for my now smaller shop used to build furniture for my loving family would make my toil less toil-y. Plus I really, really want a nice floor.

[edit] Now include that there is no money left to buy an epoxy kit for the new house. LOML wants our son's room painted to match his old one to "ease the transition". Also need to get materials to floor the new attic (lots to store) and other new house projects. So of course the epoxy goes since it's just a "want" and not a "need". [/edit]

My Epoxy story...

I think I deserve the Epoxy kit because I have done 3 garage floors in the last few years, but my current garage floor is bare :headscrat An epoxy coated garage floor is a must! You can finish your garage walls, have nice cabinets, great tools, even a garage lift, but if you still have a cold, dirty, grey concrete slab.... your garage isn't complete!

A few years ago I bought my first house with my girlfriend, great big house with a double car garage! The house was 18 years old and the garage floor had huge stains and was just no fun to work on. So I went to my local hardware store and picked up the cheap Epoxy coat system advertised on TV. It was great, easy application, great look and cheap! But unfortunately things went sour with the girlfriend and we separated, sold the house and moved :( Yes, I lost my girlfriend.... but I also lost my double car garage with a new epoxied floor!!! :eyecrazy:

So I bought my second house after the split, this time a much smaller townhouse with a single car garage. Small, but new and I was able to work on my car when I wanted to! First thing I did was to run back to my local hardware store and buy the cheap Epoxy system once again and redo my new concrete floor!!! Good results, but it started flaking at one spot where I parked everyday ... I was furious!

Father's day. Having met Isabelle and now living with her for a while, she wanted to do something special for her dad... I suggested applying an Epoxy coat on his garage floor while he was away on a weekend! He was so happy I can't even describe his reaction! "My garage is now complete!" is what he said!

Now, my dad wanted to do his garage floor, but was insisting on the fact that he could find a cheaper Epoxy system... well he did and it started flaking just a few weeks after applying it!!!

Which brings us to the present, things are going great with Isabelle and we sold the townhouse and bought a bungalow with my very own garage (once again!), brand new construction, great house, even added a foot to the garage so I would have a little more room. I'm presently trying to finish my garage, painting the walls, installing counters and cabinets, even considering a car lift! It's on this forum that I discovered the Epoxy Coat website and it's products... learning the difference between water based epoxy systems and real Epoxy systems! Now I want to finish my garage floor, but I do not trust the local hardware store water based Epoxy system... I have seen it flaked after a few weeks!!! I want a product that will last and that I can be proud of. I’m also on a mission to prove to my dad that cheaper isn't the way to go if you want quality and something that will last!

If I win this Epoxy giveaway, I will be yet again finishing ANOTHER concrete floor and this time I would be able to prove an important point to the old man and be able to recommend a better product to all my jealous friends!

Why me? Because you get really tired of people going up to your garage and making jokes on how I took massive dump on the floor. A year back, some nutjob spelled an entire engines worth of used motor oil over my entire floor. Gray concrete floor? Nope, just an oily black stained one.

Hello. My name is Ruger Rugerman. I suffer from an extremely rare disease called EDS, or Epoxy Deficiency Syndrome. It is so rare that leading specialists have concluded that I am the only one on Earth who suffers from this debilitating malady. Without a daily exposure to an epoxy surface, I suffer. I really suffer. Without epoxy, my hair falls out, my teeth rot, my prostate enlarges to the size of a basketball, hemorrhoids rear their ugly---well---rear, arthritis sets in, I can't see, and erectile dysfunction would be putting it mildly. However, scientists have found that if I am exposed to a thin layer of cycloaliphatic epoxy in an area greater than 499sf., for just a few hours per day, my symptoms disappear completely. My insurance company refuses to pay for this treatment, and I have exhausted my funds in getting a diagnosis. Could you please help me relieve the crushing burden of my EDS? Please?:(

RUGERLADY, sorry I must have missed your call on the win.

I was in the garage explaining to the little ones, Emma 3 and Ethan 2, how after Rugerlady helps daddy put in an epoxy floor with the added in friction modifier in the garage they will no longer slip and slide and fall down bumping there heads and getting "owies".

You should have seen the look in there eyes. Emma said, "Daddy, is the Rugerlady Santa.?"

"Maybe, honey. Maybe..." I said.

Anyway, sorry if I missed your call. I am back now, call any time.

Yes, but to be fair, I compare all manual labor to torture!

Why I’d love to have an epoxy floor…
I bought my first house back in Sept of last year and it’s been a nonstop overhaul ever since. Being forced to work 6 days a week to swing the mortgage every month, I have only late nights and short weekends to accomplish all my projects. I have finally made my way to the garage after convincing my fiance to let me stray from the house and get my garage going as it’s all I ever wanted… a nice place to work and store the car in. I have a 2 ½ car detached garage which is about 525 sq ft.
It all started with my neighbor’s bamboo invading my yard so I removed all of it. Well, I think I did! This stuff is indestructible! I then moved onto the structure of the garage and I had found that a squirrel or some mice found their way in there and chewed up the place (wiring insulation etc.) So I gutted the inside of sheetrock and insulation and what was left of the old wiring. After that, I moved onto upgrading the electric to 100 amp service, with the help of some friends and co workers. All was going well at this point. However, during this time I realized the place was spider heaven. So, I had an exterminator come and spray 3 times…yet I didn’t have much luck getting rid of them.
Soon, I noticed the 5 yr old roof leaking. Uh Oh!! Just two weeks ago I thought I was going to have a nice Saturday working on my garage. It has lead me into having to replace all the rotted and weathered Fasure boards (insert the ole saying “open up a can of worms” right here). So now, one thing leads to another, and it turns out the structure is infested with ants. Just after removing the first fasure board, with poorly done flashing that held water, ants come literally pouring out. Ants in my pants, hair, and inside my shirt is an understatement at this point. I had to tear the 2 layers of roof off and replace the damaged boards all while killing about a thousand ants in the process!
Next, on went the new roof. I took a sigh of relief after thinking I had it all under control…WRONG! I had moved a piece of the exposed tar paper since there were some asbestos shingles missing and guess what I found?? ANTS! ANTS! ANTS! To say I had enough ants to probably fill a 2 gallon container is an understatement. So, the following Sunday morning at 6AM I put on my respirator and started stripping the old asbestos shingles and peeled the tar paper as I sprayed every square inch of the paper and sheathing with bug spray. I felt like a window tinter (if you’ve ever seen that being done I had to do the same process!) I found big ants, small ants, and winged ants…it was amazing. I am still itchy just thinking about it.
I now go to finish the outside and find that the bottom plates and the sheathing are rotted out. The bottom plates were now only the dust remains from the ants fiesta on my garage and water leaking walls. Keep in mind I initially told my fiance I should be able to get the garage going for about a $1000. (Boy was I way off just ask Mr. Visa Card) With our wedding coming up in July, this was all just an added expense that we did not need. However, I had no choice but to take care of the problem as it was only going to get worse. I am still trying to put vinyl siding on the outside to get it weather proof but I am sure I am far from out of the woods. I still have to insulate and sheet rock the interior! The Epoxy floor would be a killer touch to complete my garage and something I probably won’t get to have unless I can win this contest!

Who knows what is next. LOL
Even if I do not win this contest atleast people will see they are not the only ones who opens up a can of worms with every project.
