Need Crimper. What Kind?

The ratcheting crimpers must be sent out for calibration, my job says every year. The parts wear and my not apply the same amount of pressure on the wires over time.

What work do you do? Aerospace maybe? Your reasons make sense to me, but I'm curious what vocations would require recalibration.

I don't know in the US but in Canada we have to send the crimper to calibration every year in the aviation industry. EDIT: At least it was like that when I worked in there a few years ago.

Personnaly I prefer the Ideal. They all use the same kind of dies. They are quite easy to find also.

This is the greatest crimper I have ever owned and use it all the time at work and home

I'll third/fourth this recommendation. I have this particular model and absolutely love it. I think a ratcheting one would be slick, but I don't use them enough to justify the expense. For what I use it for (mostly my truck) this one is well worth the money.

I use these from GB. They work great and can't beat that price. The crimping surface is very broad for a strong crimp. The first one i got had misaligned jaws. A quick email to GB, and they just dropped one off in the mail for me.

I personally like this tool. I have had different brands but this works the best for me. Channellock 909

or similar are the best

I have a similar pair from Mac. Do you know what the star-wheel adjustment is for? Mine didn't have any directions. I always wondered about that.

I have the Greenlee crimpers, similar to the Channellock and Klein crimpers people have been posting.

I need to pick up another set, to stay in my truck, it will probably end up being a set of Kleins or Channellocks....

Nothing wrong with the Greenlee crimpers, I just like to have different stuff to try out.
