I like Furman and Panamax (and ESP-Surgex and ZeroSurge and BrickWall) surge protectors

I haven't used any of those, though. I have only used plug-in surge protectors.

The one I linked is 1,350 joules.

Leviton also has them. Not sure how many joules.

I just looked it up, and the Leviton is 780 joules, with a 600V let-through, whereas the OP's is 500V let-through (that's much better). However, the OP's is a Chinese made house brand, so their numbers may be pure BS too.

Hubbell only claims 240 J and 15kA, where Leviton claims 80kA, and as brands go, I'm usually going to take sides with Hubbell's engineers over Leviton, and Leviton over any Chinese ****.

But the real issue is WHY does the OP need this spec? If this is in a commercial setting close to a high power panel, the low impedance of the site wiring could indeed allow through such a surge. But in a residential setting with some good distance from the panel, such massive surges are irrelevant (barring a direct lightning strike, which will fry equipment regardless).

thank you i forgot to mention it was recommended that i get one with min of 1080 joules by my garage door installer that just installed my chamberlain b1381 garage door opener as he said all it takes in one surge or spike to take out the board

If the installer thinks they are needed seems he might make some sales keeping them on the truck?
I might be thinking about the distance and the likely hood of this, length of circuit, if it really was a legit concern might add a more local rod tied on with a conductor size larger than circuit conductors.
