There are no levers on Wilton vises. If your model has a quick release feature, you simply reverse the handle a turn and the jaws will be released.

Thanks for verifying what I included in my post yesterday. I have never used a Wilton QR woodworking vise.

Madison:
When you get a chance, do a quick clean up and lubrication of that vise and see if the directions exmaxima1 and I are giving you will work.

Maybe I'm missing the quick lever but I don't see how it could work.

Looks like a quick release from here too.

When installed, turn the handle about 1/2 - 3/4 turn, and release. The front jaw should pull out.
In your previous post, that little spring thing is part of the quick release, I think.

And yes, the patent is a good thing to read. We deciphered some really old QR vises function that way, and figured out why it didn't work upside down on the bench, gravity assisted the QR.

Thanks for the help! I'll get it mounted and test it out soon. One other question about this vise. I see on other wood vise that there was a level on the face of the vise by the handle area. it appears a piece of metal would stickup above the face of the vise. What is the purpose of this little lever/metal piece?

That’s a vise dog. Very handy.
But you need a bench set up with holes for bench dogs.

I know these Stanley vises are pretty common, but has anyone seen a setup like this? First time for me

Does anybody recognize this unusual vise? It somehow looks European to me.

German? Spanish? Polish?

Update:

My question was answered.

This is a Carl Froh vise, made in Germany.

Hey Texas. I have built baby bases before since I could not find any either. I added a drawing and happy to share the geometry if you can make them your self. I also added a baby spindle assembly that you can buy the acme thread from McMastar Carr for others. Good luck on your search or build.

KMS, Thank you for the offer and sharing your details. That's so far beyond my capability even if the machining and tools suddenly appeared in my shop! Love seeing your work!

Came across this Chas Parker a few times, in my wandering around Craigslist. Today, I said what the heck, and contacted the guy. a few hours later, I had it all take apart, wire wheeled, degreased with WD40, and wiped down with BLO.

It's missing the thicker washer that goes with the Parker "locknut" but it'll be fine. The threads are good and the action is smooth.

Chas Parker No. 975. Says 1930 on it, but I dont know if that's when this number was patented, or if it's the same as the manufacture date.

Havent found much about this vice, but read that it was 104lbs, so without the swivel, maybe 90lbs? Certainly much nicer than my previous post, the yellow Japanese Morgan knock off.

Now to find a use for it. I have an idea, but it wont happen for a bit.

I grew up with a 975 1/2, one of my favorites to use, lots of good memories!

picked up this 4" union parker swivel base vise today for 140 bucks, think I overpaid a bit, but she has a really smooth action and doesn't look to be used much, also came on a piece of sheet metal and a big chunk of wood for a base

Welcome to the group.
IMHO, you paid a fair price. Prices vary a lot depending on area of the country and circumstances but that vise looks to be in exceptionally good condition.
And that piece of what you called sheet metal looks more like 1 inch steel plate which if you don’t want to use the set up as is, will come in handy for something in the future.

What does the steel plate weigh, maybe 75 pounds? That’s worth a few bucks just as scrap.

Thanks, she sure is really clean, jaw teeth look unused too, it is sheet metal though, where it looks kinda thick is just a 90 degree bend in the metal
I think im gonna end up mounting her onto my workbench

Hey Everyone, wanted to Introduce myself In the proper page but couldn't seem to get there.
Picked up a couple of Reed visas the past week.A 103 and a 205, not sure of age but they are In great condition. I also have a very early Wilton 3 Inch I purchased from my brother who acquired It from the wife of a ww2 Airforce pilot who acquired It from the Military just after ww2. I'm realizing that I sorta have a fetish for vises.

Got a reed 205 1/2 I saved from the dump at work. I think it was supposed to have a swivel base but it’s long gone. I also got a craftsman 4” from a friend at work that was getting rid of it. IMG_1176.jpgIMG_1175.jpgIMG_1174.jpgIMG_1205.jpg

I recently restored this Heuer Front vise. Made in Germany between 1936 and 1940 (an interesting time to say the least) these Heuer Vises are just gorgeous tools.

First they are fully forged, not cast, so they ring like a bell and are as strong as hell. The jaws aren't cast in place, they are just part of the forged dynamic jaw.

The spindle handle is held in place with 15 6mm ball bearing, nothing else.

This model Heuer has a solid forged round dynamic jaw base that is 1.5" in diameter. Within the base of the static body is a cut out (front and back) which is designed to accommodate a strip of F5 felt (yeah its a thing...I took two days learning all about felt). The felt is soaked in my synthetic grease and it wipes and lubricates the slide as the vise opens and shuts , not allowing contaminants to enter the body cavity.

These are GREAT vises and while they don't have the heft of a 6" Athol, because they are forged, they do not need the weight for strength.

Is the Parker 22X vise one of Parker's "Superior" line? It seems so but I haven't seen Parker catalog descriptions that say that. It's possible that the 22X was made before they called their vises Superior and Eclipse lines.

The 22x page says parts are interchangeable with Superior parts.

I picked up this height-adjustable stand that will also rotate 360 degrees. It weighs about 250-300 lbs I believe. It was originally a Greenfield Surface Grinder made between 1902-1920.

I perched a Wilton 2C on top as a size refernce. I expect that the weight limit on this would be about 250 lbs.

Here is a video of it in action:

I was planning on keeping it but I buyer offered me great $$ for it restored so out it goes.

Even for a large sum of money It would be hard for me to part with that stand,It being adjustable and antique also makes It pretty hard to replace, which practical use would be considered . But that's just my view on some things that's hard replaceable.
