I finally got my base plate trolleys for my cantilever gate. I have two of these which will support the welded metal picket gate. Getting the right 20 foot piece shipped here is out of the question due to shipping cost
So I am going to get a square tube and cut a one inch notch out of one side so this roller fits inside.
Question I have is the minimum dime ruins I need are 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 exact square. Trying to account for the rounded inside corners of tube so I’m sure it fits. Example. 2.5 square 1/8 wall might be too tight.
Also fence will be 22 feet long and unknown weight. Will 1/8 thick be enough after I cut the groove out of it? Fence will have a separate bottom welded to this piece.
Metal supplier still under COVID so I can’t go there and test fit.

I picture your roller assembly is flat mounted either below (or above) the gate at the edge of the opening, the captured channel you are trying to make with the cut square tubing is just more of a guide and running surface for the wheels and the gate itself will be more of the structure/strength.

1/8" for the capture feature I would think would be sufficient if the gate frame is stout enough to support the gate for the intended span.

I'm not following you, but given lengths/weights you are talking about 1/8" is flimsy.

Like this. It will have a welded fence so weight spread over the length of it so the only concern I have is when it’s closing and the back trolley will be pulling down on the two cut edges.

Thanks. The gate should be plenty strong

The problem you’re going to have is the tubing will spring open on you. I did something similar initially with my big slider and didn’t care for the results so I inverted my guide roller and created my own channel off the front side of my 2” x 2” square mid rail, imagine the mid rail being double thick if ya would and it’s not noticeable in the least. For my guide rail I used 2” x 1/4” angle with 1/2” flat bar welded in underneath to create my U channel. And because the gate rolls into an upslope had to machine a guide block to support the wheel assembly. I’m not sure if that helps or confused you but if pictures help I could post some this weekend.

Yea pics would help.
Think I will cut the seam and see what spring I get and then measure my opening and cut. I like the enclosed setup as I’m in snow country and like that it won’t freeze up.
