Sunday find of a small specific use box. A HUTTO (Cylinder) GRINDER (Hone to us these days).
Mid 1920's box - a couple of information pages for those interested:

And how I found it -Bought full of tools and other bits and pieces:
After "Stage 1" Cleanup (Grez-Off):
And Inside:
And the Label inside - this has NOT been touched for cleaning. I found a couple or scraps of it loose in the box amongst the crud. I'm going to carefully glue done a few lifted edges and then glue these pieces back where they go - I may try some alcohol to try to leach some of the oil out of the paper after its been stabilized:
I'm a bit amazed at the overall condition of the box (Good I feel), its NOT dented up, the edges barely shows any abuse (usually the edges are all whopped about and I have to use my tongs aggressively to get them straight), rust is surface only, a surprising amount of unrusted bare metal (it clearly got rained on and had water inside...) the top is the worst where it was subjected to dew and direct rain ( semi open shed... gaps between the fence "Walls" and the roof...)
The Plan for this is to add to my growing tools I use for camp stoves and lanterns, and many of those are also old vintage pieces, or made tools (I'm making a fuel cap gasket scraper out of an ancient broken dental tool I found in this box. Several other tools are going to join it.)
Undecided if I paint the outside, but if I can gently remove the outside rist without buggering the label, I may just seal it rat rod style.
