I brought the SK box into the back yard and gave it a thorough cleaning. I started with Grez-Off after reading about it here for degreasing old tools. It worked VERY well. Spray on, wait a few minutes, brush gently if needed and rinse off.

Followed up with some 0000 steel wool and WD40 on the rusty spots. Then a automotive cleaner and some paste wax.

The box really cleaned up very nicely. I’m quite pleased.

I picked up some thin cork liners and cut it to size. Not quite sold on the cork yet but we’ll see...

I grabbed some tools and filled it up. I think this will make a great road box for weekends out dirt biking. It fits just enough to cover most typical repairs without being too heavy.

I'm currently looking to buy something that is residing on top of this cabinet, but the seller doesn't want to piece it out (yet) .

I'm curious if someone can advise if this blue roller is legitimately some sort of Sun Service cart, or if someone randomly placed a sticker on it long ago.

I'm thinking of buying the whole shooting match and flipping this cart if it has any collectible merit, in order to get to my prize on top.

Yes, that is a SUN cabinet. The black knob to open the door might even say SUN on it.

Where in MI are you located and what is the prize you're interested in.

I have a feeling he deliberately cropped the photos and did not mention the ID of the top cabinet so as to prevent someone else from scooping in and grabbing it before he got an answer. It has happened to others on this forum before. So if you dont get an answer, it may not be him being rude/ignoring you, but rather him not tipping his hand too early. For times where I was local to the OP, I have had better luck talking over PM, especially if I was willing to split the purchase, and take the part the OP was not interested in.

Cruzan is correct. I deliberately cropped the pics. The grouping is several hours from me but I have the means for their retrieval.

Absolutely it's a Sun cart. But don't go thinking you'll get hundreds of dollars for it. Maybe $100 tops.

Galaxie,

I rarely harbor such grand illusions, but I appreciate the feedback. Again, the thought was to buy the fixed lot and take the desired top chest off of the Sun cart and end up with that box at a reasonable price to own.

Bunch of largely worthless tools too that would be a long road to hoe, to unload and recoup.

That is a Sun cabinet as I have the exact same one minus whatever is supossed to be on top. I put a steel top on it and use it as my rolling metal fab cart. I paid $25 I believe from a lady who was selling off her deceased husband's tools. Just curious but what is supposed to be on top? I know you don't want to tip it off but I have no interest especially being in NY.

Picked up these beauties today - Huot 11d top chest mounted to a Craftsman Heritage era 3d rolling cabinet, both lovingly painted canary yellow. Do I restore them or preserve the patina?

Joking aside, it should hardly come as a surprise that these were listed for free on Marketplace but what was surprising is that they were listed for a couple days. I figured some scrapper would have picked them up. I will be stripping them for useful parts.

NYBODYMAN, my Sun 500 Distributor Tester sits on a cabinet like you asked after. I mentioned this upthread. Many of the upper units are self-contained, and don't need any holes in the top of the roller. The tune-up tester/scopes use a similar roller, perhaps even identical.

Older versions before the blue colored roller may have holes in the top of the roller. I have one like that. Apparently, the motor or something was mounted in the base unit.

Just saw this SK at a local thrift shop for $20. I passed, but it sure seems cool with the patina and leather handle.c0c5c7d7d5584c017d9ffe00d6535c09.jpg957f2a36f45fbb2b2c18e84068cc030a.jpg58bac06c1f32a38659e9a39c6bb68bd8.jpgfe9de29f48cf6ccac58df287dfb67744.jpg

Ok,ok, ok...due to all the peer pressure, I returned yesterday and this Sherman-Klove box was still there, so I bought it! Hope you guys are happy now! [emoji6]

Also picked up an interesting flat Craftsman box for $3. It’s 4” deep with a handle on the top. Originally housed a rotary grinder.03f050383ba2d345afa8e6cb84b24f9e.jpg23e24b8446b18f6f4bfb20f999d6c00d.jpg3965807965359b1b1f4c00a126652119.jpg3e8c90e8bcfdd539f4c492f53c449543.jpg

I couldn’t see any markings aside from a “WB” stamp visible in the blurry photo, maybe that was the previous owner’s initials? A Kennedy perhaps? Not a steal at $35 but very appealing, robust, smooth and functional. I may go back and get it.

If the box you've circled in red in Pic 1 is the box that's open in Pic 2 & 3, it IS definitely undoubtedly a Kennedy. That WB is aftermarket. PO, PO's former company, or just extraneous.

See those triangular stiffener indents on the inside of the upper sides? Kennedy tell. If those are round, it's a Simonsen.

on the 260 - I see the bottom rollers of that era somewhat often, the top mechanics chests, never. I have the later (extruded aluminum pulls ) 260 and the 2 drawer mid sitting on top of the older 8 drawer roller.

Not sure I'd part with $95 either, but I'm a roller guy more than a top box guy... Having said that, If I were trying to complete a set I probably would go for $95 if I could not talk them down... It just depends on what you want and the local economy for such things...

Personally I like the Kennedy boxes. I have more Kennedy's than any other brand, - almost more than all the others combined? 22 Kennedy's.

As eluded to by Lugz it is a Kennedy Cantilever toolbox. It may be a 1017,1018 or a 1022. The model numbers refer to the width and length. A 1022 would be 10 inches wide x 22 inches long. I am going to speculate based upon my perception of the relation of the latches to the handle ,you have a 1018.

Saw these at the swap, I bought the Thorsen and somebody really messed with it, but it is strait and the sticker is nice. Carpet glued to bottom, painted gross green on top.
I didn't buy the duplex.

Would anybody like the Thorsen?

I just saw the same box. ACtually same era/decal, smaller box. Only a few of the sockets and the hinge handle were Thorsen, though, so I left it.

Hope someone can help point me in the right direction. Have an old homak box that has two bent friction drawer slides. The slides are 16" long, 1" wide and 5/16" thick. I tried searching the interwebs but no luck.
