Puget/Yarz,

No steam iron needed this time.

Moisture content was single digit. Very thirsty.

I’ll check it in a few days, giving it time to stabilize before I finish sand it.

Thanks

8/4 x 12” x 18’

Spar grade, old growth, clear, vertical grain, Sitka Spruce.

The most expensive board I’ve ever purchased (personal use).

I went through Specialty Forest Products.

http://specialtyforest.com/

About 1/3 less than everything else I found.

Edensaw only had 6” wide material.

I ordered a 10” wide board, but got a 12” wide one.

I got 6 BF free!

I paid for 30 BF at $10/Ft

Shifted focus onto de-chrome’n some boat hardware.

Not sure if it’ll work, it’s vintage chrome.

Any other ideas to remove chrome?

I’m trying to not use grinders or sanders, don’t want to damage the brass underneath.

You can remove the chrome layer in about 2 to 3 minutes submerged in muriatic acid, however the nickel underneath takes a cyanide based chemical to remove. I have had some success removing the nickle by soda blasting.

Sent from my SM-A102U using The Garage Journal mobile app

Thank you for reminding me that I have a soda blaster!

Going to have to give it a go

Riv, I like that bandsaw you bought. Is that an 18" saw? That cherry picker sure is handy for the big stuff. I have a Grizzly cabinet saw and really like it.

Jay,
It’s a 13.5” saw. If I need to resaw anything bigger, I always have friends with bigger machines.

Grizzly is kinda like harbor freight in that they have some stuff that’s worth buying, and some that isn’t. As always, buyer beware

Nice bandsaw. I picked this one up last week off of FB Marketplace. Had to drive 5 hours each way. Florida is bigger than I thought.

And then I found a nice jointer.

You’re setting up shop!

A couple nice additions.

Post up some pics as you get set up.

TF, those are a couple nice machines for your future shop? I need to check on your thread it's been awhile.

Riv, yeah I agree Grizzly has some items you want to avoid.

Stayed up late, and put this together for the bandsaw.

All out of parts from my shed.

$0 invested!
