Extending a pendant light power cord

I have some pendant lights that I want to hang about 8 ft from the ceiling but they only have 5 ft power cords and 3 ft dimmer cords. Looks like NEC 725 allows a splice in the dimmer cord outside a junction box since it is class II wiring, but it isnt so clear how to handle the power cord.

Is there a code compliant way to extend the power cord outside of a junction box? For example, is it acceptable to put a standard 120v plug on the end of the cord and have another cord with 120v receptacle hanging down from the junction box?

Most likely they're listed as units by UL (or another lab), and any modifications would have to be included in the instructions or labeling.

NEC 110.3(C)

If you were buying them new, you could specify longer cords. My understanding of the code is that luminaires are considered permanent fixtures and required to be wired as such. Extension cords are not allowed to be used.
Is it possible for you to just remove the existing cord and attach a longer one?

The cord appears to be potted into the fixture, so no easy replacement with longer cord. I’ll probably just hang these as low as the OEM cord reaches.
