I put my long extension ladders on the back of the building on hooks across the back and have them locked to it. The step ladders I have hooks on my slat walls to hold them Verticle.

I have 3 ladders, not counting the little step-ladders:

- one 6-footer is hung horizontally along the second-floor's support beam using big hooks. Up and out of the way....
- one 5-footer is in a gap between two cabinets. This is the one I use all the time.
- the 20' extension ladder/scaffold is laying on the ground in front of my truck. The truck's nose pulls over it, and is still below the shelves/cabinets on the wall. I thought about hanging it on the same beam as the other, but it is heavy and awkward to lift.

I made some large U shaped pieces out of flat bar, 1/8 x 1 1/2. lag screw them into the rafters and suspend my ladders from the ceiling. problem is I have to have a ladder to get them down. that 6' is just in an unused corner of the garage.

The 6' fiberglass hangs on a hook by the shop door. The extension ladder is just in the way all the time. I need to remember to get some hangers and hang it on the back of the garage. It was up in the attic, but it's PITA to get down. We have a fairly flat roof over the porch, might just throw it up there.

I have a 32' ext ladder hanging on one side wall, at chest level, on brackets from Home Depot. I have a alum 8' A-ladder that hangs from the ceiling, horizontally, in the space between the tracks of the two overhead doors.

I have a piece of pipe slightly wider than the ladder hanging about a foot below my rafters.I slide one end of my extension ladder over the pipe and hook a rope and pulley on the other end.Pull the base end up with the rope and tie it off.The ladder hangs about a foot below the rafters, out of the way and easy to get to when I need it.

My 28' extension ladder hangs under my deck. AFter my buddy's neighborhood had some break-ins where the the thieves stole ladders from one yard to climb into other homes, I added a chain and lock.

I bought some ladder hooks from the Home Depot. I attached them to a concrete block wall in my backyard.

I think a lot of it has to do with how often you use them.
I have my extensions hanging from the ceiling because I rarely use them.
But the step ladders are on wall hooks where they are easy to get to.

i keep some in the house, but my 24, 32 and 40ft extension ladders are between my garage and the neighbors, on blocks, and then chained to the garage. they are nice and out of the way, and very well hidden from view there

My extension ladders are in the corner like I previously stated. The 8' step ladder, is up against the wall under the door for the attic and the 3' is in the back room.
